Original date of talk: 3/2/21

Abstract: Classical mathematical physics was dealing with partial differential equations and their applications. What about modern mathematical physics? Is it a part of mathematics or a part of physics or neither? In this talk, I will illustrate what a mathematical physics is by considering 3 examples which unify different areas of pure mathematics: algebraic and complex geometry, spectral theory, automorphic functions and number theory, partial differential equations and nonlinear waves, etc.

What to do when I have interest in intersection of theoretical physics, mathematical physics and pure mathematics?
