There have been a lot of amazing DLCs/expansions in recent years. But I don't know if any DLC has delivered a 95% aggregate score on Metacritic like Shadow of the Erdtree has. Actually insane. I'm 20 hours in and I'm maybe 2/5 of the way through. I still don't feel like I've gotten to the REALLY GOOD stuff. And those 20 hours have already been incredible. If you wanted more Elden Ring, you're getting more Elden Ring. Y'all are in for a treat.

To think that Miyazaki stated in a recent interview that ER was the just the first step for this studio in the open world genre and that he feels he hasn't created in his opinion the ideal fantasy setting rpg.

Let’s see, it added:

-More content on top and already excellent base
-More weapon diversity
-QoL
-Game time worthy of it’s $40 price tag
-A large new area completely unexplored

Oh yeah it also

-Didn’t add any bullshit microtransactions
-No online only bs
-Didn’t take away or change the shit people love from the base game

This is the prime blueprint for DLCs. I hope more devs take note of this.

One thing to note about Miyazaki is he's remarkably humble if you listen to his interviews, and compared that to other game devs who get so full of themselves and lazy to the point they think their customers are dumb. Just a reminder that humility will make you grow while pride will stagnate and ruin you're work.

It's Fromsoft, the best game studio to ever exist, ever. They have pretty much ascended to gaming godhood. Their games are the best, they don't do EA/Ubi/Take2/Activision trash - they just make quality that resonates with the people.
