While FZF will do the job for a lot of tasks sometimes I want to have a bit of a custom interface and while we've looked at GUI interface builders we haven't looked at something for the terminal and that changes today. This is Smenu which let's you script some really power TUIs

7:47 Indeed, it is obvious that being a regex one can indeed have more complex selections than this.

This is actually great. I'm thinking about using for my TUI login screen

Never seen this before. I use skim now for my interfaces. Used dialog before that (basically an ncurses version of zenity or qarma).

It's like dmenu, but in the terminal. That's pretty cool.

So, this is basically dmenu for terminal. Neat.

When you consider that descent solutions already exist for terminal interface frameworks, this tool seems rather pointless. Why use smenu over dialog or whiptail, or any other proper ncurses framework?

I have a question. Can I pipe that in dmenu, in some way?

use bash Select, its allready in bash:
select ITEM in [LIST]
do
[COMMANDS]
done

or use Whiptail instead, it is allready installed in all-most all distros....
