Writing Poetry: Where Do I Start?

Great advice and book recommendations! I am no published poet or author, but I absolutely love poetry and would like to glorify God with my writing as well. However, if I may add my two cents to anyone who wants to write poetry... I went to an (almost) ivy league school, and took a poetry class there. I was also an assistant editor for my high school's creative writing magazine. (And writing conferences all growing up too.) First, let me say you do not need to spend thousands of dollars on a degree to be a writer. Writing is an art, hone your craft. I agree with the video as far as reading and memorizing poetry. I should add to that to also just start writing. I will write a few lines here and a few lines there to save for later, or it may come all at once sometimes. Just write a line a day in a journal, or keep a running poem journal to add to until a poem is complete, soon the pages will be full. But if there is any takeaway I learned from formal writing classes, and specifically the art of the poem, it is that poetry is all about precision. Once I understood what the secret ingredient was in the poem, it made it easier to focus on writing quality poetry. Poetry is all about deep meaning in very few words. if I might be so bold if I could encourage someone...I immersed myself in God’s Word when I was plunged into a crisis of my soul. You don’t have to have a crisis to dwell richly in His Word. But, I did and I read endlessly His beautiful Word. It’s not just the poetic books...poetry is everywhere because the essence of beautiful poetry is a truthful thought, formed with words, creating imagery that glorifies God. In 6 months time after this crisis, I began to write poems and I’ve never stopped...it is a wonderful time of communion with my Saviour as I form truths into understandable messages from Him that I can own. God’s Word has taken on new depths...Maybe reading a ‘how-to’ will bless and help people, but I think the greatest way is meditation and learning to listen for the Spirit’s expression through the inner man. God bless any reading this and especially those who are intimidated to employ your gifts and hidden desires. Trust the Spirit Who lives inside!

When the Word touches a heart,

I have some questions for you.

1. Why God created us human beings?
2. Does God know that we human will sin?
3. If God knew we will sin, why did He punished us?

There's a little question.. unanswered
'Bout a little critters luck.. just how much wood.. can a wood chuck chuck?

Some have long necks and others just one horn.. but for what has God created you.. yes why are you born?

Then settle this one thing.. it's not about your face.. nor fame.. nor your talent for the game

But for ABBAS Glory.. His Humility.. His Shame
