How to Install Plex on Synology NAS | 4K TUTORIAL

Plex is an awesome way to view your entire digital media library with a beautiful web interface! Synology NAS can make the perfect host for a Plex Library as they are designed to be always on and have massive amounts of storage. Their lower powered CPUs however do not always support live transcoding a higher resolutions.

Recently I acquired a Synology DS 920+ (original Plex server on a DS 218+) and was wondering if you had a tutorial (or know of one) about migrating the Plex Server from the old NAS to the new NAS without losing any of the metadata within the original Plex library. Any thoughts on that?

I got the question for you. If my home networks IP is not 192.168 or 10.xxxx is there anyway for Plex on the Synology to get past the nonsoup for you error. When I look at the logs it treats not 192.168 and 10xxx as non local even though the nas maps it’s IP from the home router. And the ONLY way it works is if I change the IP but my NVR uses the 10 subnet and because it has it own subnet that needs POE it conflicts. So yes. Anyway to get Plex nas to work as my Mac Plex server works just fine as is.

I just purchased a DS920+ and it has DSM7. Installing Plex does not show me the location for it's files. How do you migrate from a different platform i.e. windows without losing meta data? How do you install plug ins?

I just ordered a synology 5 bay nas(DS-1520+) to store my plex files on. I already have a dedicated PC for my plex server, nzb's, etc. Would the NAS be faster than just keeping my plex server running on my PC? i am running a 2 or 3 year old AMD chip, and so far it's working perfectly even with multiple streams. I originally was just using the ds1520 for storing my files on it, but seeing this video got me thinking....

Hi thanks for the awesome tutorial. One issue I had in case it helps other when setting up you have to connect to plex using the actual ip address rather than the exp --synology.local link otherwise I kept getting the No Soup For you error.

Hi, I noticed recently if I play local 4k videos from my Plex server hosted on my DS1821+ at PC and then chromecast to my Smart tv, my Syno’s CPU goes up to 90%+.
Any idea how to troubleshoot?

What is the Synology workaround method for accessing it remotely? I’m double Natted and can’t bridge the router (ISP locked) so would love to Google that method.

I am not a computer genius. I have an old WDMyBookDuo, and it shows up as a device on my LG TV under "Input List". I click on it, then go to which ever folder in there (movie, photos etc) and play movies and stuff. How can I achieve same on my same TV using this Synology NAS DS923+ which my son bought me and left for Ukraine?
