I was taught (in school) to always stretch the hip flexors and never strengthen them. My personal experience is that the more I strengthen my muscles including my psoas the less back pain I have. If I stretch the hip flexors a lot they get weak, sore and my back is more susceptible to pain.

a short muscle is often also a weak muscle. So if you stretch your hip flexors and get the feeling that they get even tighter then consider strengthening

If you sit all day long your psoas will become weak and you can develop a posterior pelvic tilt. I dont agree with not strenghtening it if youre not athlete because the psoas play a major role in posture and sitting in general

Studying for my NASM, and wanted to know how to reinforce the psoas muscle... And again end up with critical bench. Shows how you guys know what you're talking about. Thanks a lot for all the informative videos.

Even if you sit, you have to strengthen your hip flexors in every range of motion. I used to sit all day and had tight hips. Hip flexor and glute strengthening exercises made a huge improvement. It's a myth that sitting makes hip flexors stiff. You just don't use them during sitting and you loose them.

I hope you see this... great video, the psoas is one of the most overlooked muscles in athletes and is why a lot of people have imbalances, also one of the most important muscles in sprinting!!

And strengthening helps to stabilize the lumbar region of the spine! This is important if weakness is cause of your back pain.

You can have long/weak and short/weak muscles. Sitting all the time does not shorten muscles fibres. That's a very rare thing to happen in muscles (dropping sarcomeres).
I'm just wondering if you don't train the poas past 90-degree hip flexion, does it really train the poas? It looks like you're just training the other hip flexors, not the poas.

I have had pain in my right groin for over a year now. I have tried glute strengthening and hip flexor stretches continuously for that time with little to no relief of the pain. I plan to try the banded leg lifts to see if that works any better. Wish me luck.

I ride horses and I’m trying to strengthen my legs and hips and where I am squatting most of the time I think this will help a lot so thank you.

Thank you. I'm a swimmer with a strong breaststroke kick. Recently have been upping my training intensity which resulted in tight psoas, felt tender in adductor. It's been released but I'll start strengthening.

Hey, i think psoas has greater activation if you start from 90 degree, otherwise it target also rectus femoris which is strong hip flexor

Weak muscles equals tight muscles..I believe everyone especially chair potatoes should be doing these exercises along with glute and hamstring exercises..
