Thank you for this video. I don't think I've used a piano less than 20 or 30 years old since I can't remember when.

I bought a brand new piano earlier this year (Kawai ST-1), even though I was originally in the market for used. Man I do not regret it one bit! I'm very glad I didn't cheap out.

“Big wallet VS fat wallet” was the original title.

Robert had also mentioned in another video how the hammers have to be broken in for the soft pedal to work.

If you acquired a vintage Steinway, even if the instrument is 100 years old with some broken parts, the instrument would retain a lot of value as a piece of antique. Like a Stradivarius or Guarnari del Jesu violin from 300 years ago, you can be sure the instrument can fetch a lot of money at an auction (in millions of dollar literally).
There are wealthy people with a piano in the living room they would never play. Nobody in the family has taken music lessons and it is just sitting in the living room as a decorative piece of furniture. About a year ago, a couple ordered pizza. The man doing the delivery asked about the family piano. The older man at home doesn't play and knew nothing about the instrument. The pizza boy sat down and played the last movement of the Beethoven Moonlight Sonata. The man's wife was not at home. He was so impressed by the pizza boy's playing he took out his phone and started recording to the end of the piece for his wife. And the video was uploaded online & went viral. The pizza boy appeared on the Ellen show. You find people with grand pianos at home that they don't play but make a house feel cozy & comfortable. And you have people like myself who played a digital instrument for years due to the lack of space at home.

Used piano deals are out there! Employ the services of/befriend a registered piano technician when considering your used piano purchase. A $100 inspection fee now is much better than $10, 000 of repairs needed after you own the instrument. Baldwin pianos are fantastic candidates, especially from the very late 1960s into the 80’s. I bought a 1969 SD-10 concert grand for less than $10k and all it needed was some cleaning and minor regulation.

Hi Robert just a question, has being able to try so many different pianos helped you in your piano playing? I think it must be really wonderful to have the opportunity to play so many different pianos!

at how many decades, generations or even century does a piano start to have a different (deteriorating) sound?

Why do you always film in different places? Just go to a good place and stick to it until you feel uncomfortable in that place
