I didn't get the math? The mortgage is usually 3 times the rent of the property calculating for a period of 10 years (in my area at least). Renting out only half the apartment would mean I can only pay 1/6 of my mortgage with the rent rest is still on me!
Am I missing something?

Just to cover the MASSIVE demographics nobody ever wants to mention: If you're childfree in your 30s+ by choice, need to live in such circumstances for any other reason like you got divorced, etc. It's also a smart option.
