I’m so grateful we could talk about this, I learned so much! Thank you ❤️

This is crazy, because even as a medical student, we’re taught an ectopic pregnancy is a MUST NOT MISS diagnosis for unilateral pain in the left or right lower quadrants (or just in the lower abdominal area). ESPECIALLY if you know that the patient has had a positive pregnancy test. The fact that no one considered this diagnosis after multiple visits is horrifying.

A lot of people absolutely refuse to acknowledge how life-threatening a pregnancy can be

I had to carry my deceased baby for a month knowing she had passed (after having to take a sheet to the ultrasound tech that clearly said “fetal demise?” written on it) while the medical system tried to fit me in for a D&C. I ended up hemorrhaging at midnight at 16 weeks while still waiting…and delivered on the hospital bathroom floor after labouring in the ER for hours…and I still needed a D&C the next day.

The sh*t us women have to go through with our care is unreal.

My friend almost died from this. She didn't know she was pregnant, went to ER with intense stomach pain and they just kept her waiting for hours and finally got her an ultrasound. Then they saw she was bleeding out internally and she immediately went to surgery. The surgeon was furious because she could've been un-recoverable in 30 more min. It's absurd how women's pain is dismissed.

God this breaks my heart. My ex was like this. I got pregnant, I wanted to keep it, but he tried talking me out of it, his parents tried to, and when I one day got a miscarriage. He told me "I'm glad you lost the baby." I have never dumped anyone so fast. Those words still stick with me, 6 years later.

Paramedic here. Anytime we get a female of child bearing age with one sided abdominal pain we think ectopic pregnancy immediately. That’s a life threatening emergency.

This reminds me of when I was 15 and found out I had 2 uteruses and one didn’t have an opening so it was retaining blood and I had the worst pain I have ever felt but my doctor refused to help me he said he wouldn’t help me if I was going to lie to him (because he thought I was pregnant but I was a virgin and told him that) but he refused to do a pregnancy test or an ultrasound. I finally went to a hospital and an OB finally helped me and I had a surgery to create an opening in the uterus and there ended up having just over a liter of blood in my male doctor who should have his license taken ☺️

I had an ectopic pregnancy when I was 25. I had tried to get pregnant for years already. Took a test and I was thrilled when it was positive. A few days later I was working and started to have pain and spotting. So I drove myself to the hospital. The pain got really bad. I was told that I had an ectopic pregnancy after having an internal ultrasound. But they couldn't see my tubes. So after being told it wasn't a viable pregnancy I had to wait for the doctor coming from about 30 miles away. I was alone. I had the car so my boyfriend or sister couldn't get tome. I was in agony. Don't know why I couldn't get something for the pain. A stranger actually went to find a doctor cause she sat there for over an hour listening to me cry in agony and no one even came to check on me. After an hour and half they finally took me for surgery. The worst part came after I woke up. Still by myself and the doctor came in and told me what had happened. I will never forget exactly what I was told. He said the they had to do pretty much a c section. They couldn't see anything without opening me up. That I had stage 4 endometriosis and would never have kids. I was never diagnosed with it before. My period cramps were so bad I would physically get sick from the pain. I was always told it's just cramps. No one in my family was ever diagnosed with endometriosis either. I had no idea that cramps that bad are not normal. But I was always dismissed when I said about my bad cramps. I was then told by a lot of people that they had endometriosis and had kids. People don't realize that the different stages determines if you can get pregnant. I tried everything from surgery to shot to put me in menopause. But stage 4 it grows bad very quick. I am now almost 50. Never had a baby. And menopause started. The only good part is no more pain.

I'm so horrified by how the medical professionals AND her boyfriend treated her. I can't believe how he treated her about the termination and about how ignored she was by the medical professionals. I really hope she's doing better now

I had a coworker who worked throughout her recovery after having surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy because our (male) boss decided "it couldn't be worse than an intense kind of period". Not only was it awful to watch her in so much pain as we worked, it was so disrespectful and dismissive. I mean, even a "bad period" is debilitating pain, having a surgery to remove part of your body because you might die is absolutely a good reason to take sick leave.

I worked in registration in an ER and had a person come in with the complain of vaginal bleeding, soaking a pad an hour. The nurses didn't seem to believe her. She ended up going to the bathroom and for some reason I went to check on her, I think they were calling her to the back.

She was in the handicap stall, on the floor, and there was blood EVERYWHERE!! She had a ruptured ectopic and didn't know she was pregnant.

Always believe your patients. It's their body. They know it best.

All of this is why we sue doctors. Not to get money, but to encourage doctors to give a damn and be thorough.
I had a miscarriage in June and my dr right out the gate “this may be an ectopic pregnancy, you will be here AT LEAST once a week for blood tests and ultrasounds”. It seemed like such a pain in my ass and I just wanted her to give me answers. I am going to call my OB/GYN after this just to leave a message to tell her I’m so grateful for giving a damn. Thank you Sabrina for your VERY important story.

When I heard how the bf reacted to her saying she had to leave work to go to the hospital because her pain was affecting her physical health to that extent, I was just like, "Nope, uh-uh! Throw the whole man out!"

As a guy who doesn’t plan on having kids, I’m extremely grateful for this video and Sabrina’s story. It really opened my eyes to how scary pregnancy can really be. As wonderful and amazing the experience can be for those who yearn to be parents, I never imagined just how many variables and complications that need to be considered. Despite not wanting kids, I do love the people around me, so their journey as parents or soon-to-be parents matter a lot to me and informative conversations like these help me understand how to be a better friend/loved one to them

I just don’t understand how the providers could have missed this. I’m a paramedic - meaning I have MINIMAL training in this area, essentially I’m taught to recognize potentially life threatening conditions related to pregnancy and how to deliver a baby. Even with truly minimal training within the first minutes of this story my mind went straight to an ectopic pregnancy. How are providers who are supposed to be experts missing this when her symptoms are textbook?! This is clear proof of how women are constantly ignored in healthcare. It’s the 21st century and this woman’s experience is not a rarity. Sad.

I'm really glad to see this being talked about by someone whose goal isn't just to discuss the morality of Gus's actions. I feel like fans are so concerned with him that they're almost forgetting that Sabrina is a human being who actually went through this.

One of my friends chose to continue a pregnancy her boyfriend was pressuring her to terminate because the clinic counselor got her alone and gave her the opportunity to sort out her feelings without him there. They broke up immediately and her son is a teenager now.

My clinic counselor believed me immediately when I said I very much did not want to be pregnant. Neither of us have regrets.

One of my aunts had an ectopic pregnancy in the early 1950’s, and they removed her Fallopian tube. Her mother-in-law, an older woman from Slovakia, said, “Well, that’s it, you will either have all boys or all girls!”
My aunt went on to have four of each!

Honestly, I feel like the doctors she went to who ignored her pains are guilty of malpractice. How many other people might die because of that medical staff? Yikes.
