I really think you guys should’ve mentioned that this SSD comes preinstalled with an app that allows you to update your files, photos, videos, etc. to that app, that can then be locked so if someone were to steal this SSD from you, they’d be prompted to put in a password before they could see anything on it first. A very nice feature and option that not many drives offer.

When I first saw images of the SSD I thought it was going to be a lot bigger. It's crazy that such a good SSD is so small and portable!

A number of people are asking how this compares to the Samsung T5. I understand that the T5 uses TLC flash memory blocks where write operations are cached to a buffer which is limited to 10Gb, so if you are transferring data that is >10Gb there is a significant drop in write speed. Someone on a comparison video has posted test results for data >10Gb showing the Samsung drop to 150Mbps - where the SanDisk (which uses MLC) maintains full write speed.

Just bought one and I love the form factor and how well it works so far.

I have one - I use a 500 GB unit with my desktop PC to store ALL my home working files, so I can unplug the SSD and take it with me on vacation, along with my HP laptop. I put a rubber band around it to stop it sliding all over the place. At some point I will move up to the 1TB version. Having all my files with me is great as we are often out of reach of internet via cell service (i.e., the cloud).

As per many other reviews, there is a data loss issue in Sandisk Extreme portable SSD which is not addressed here

Yeah, you don't need the dongle but you need a USB-C hub for all that junk we are plugging into our Mac Book Pros. These drives are legit! I work from these after syncing up to my San Disk G-RAID storage vault.

SanDisk 'could have' designed a storage groove around the outside of the case for the connection cord. That would have allowed everything to be kept together and possible eliminating digging around for the cord among all the other cords we all carry. Some might argue the potential to lose the cord if it were to come out of the storage groove while carrying it on a carabiner. Simple design solution... one end of the cord would be permanently fixed to the drive. Lacie (sp?) Used this groove storage on ruggedized drives years ago and it was very useful for cord management.

I have always liked your reviews. You do a good job of showing sizing, and usefulness of a product. Keep the reviews coming and thank you Jeff.

Jeff, I just used a BGNing M.2 NVMe enclosure ($43), WD Black drive (500GB), and a CM USB IF Certified USB C cable. I'm getting over 843 Write & 963 Read speeds from my new Mac Mini. Headed out to get a 1TB 970 Evo on sale. It might smoke this for just a smidge more. I did add some thermal pads to the controller, because it got very hot.

Can you say more about your choice of Mac OS Extended Journaled vs ExFat?

Your review videos are so much better than your sponsored videos. However I appreciate your transparency on the matter

I have a lot of bad experience with SanDisk from USBs to memory cards. After sometime it couldn’t be read by the computer.
