When I was little I thought flight attendants were like superstars because they were all smiling, super kind, all freaking beautiful, tall with amazing outfits 🥺
And they'd take pictures with you 🥺

She got the job because of excessive cuteness and fun personality. If you are going to work with customers, need to smile. Grin and bear it, is the saying.

No Jeenie luck did not get you hired. Your charisma did. You stand out from the crowd in every way, you are breathtaking inside out and the Emirates people obviously saw that miles away.

I am a retired hospitality instructor and this is a wonderful story and very well told. You never know where life will take you.

The language boost is real. I remember applying for the same IT position as another girl with very similar experience and because she knew Spanish and there were a lot of customers who spoke Spanish in the area, she got the job over me. I ended up getting a different position and I realized a lot of the people who worked at the service desk knew different languages. One guy was actually from Russia, another guy was fluent in German... it doesn’t come up every day but when it does, it matters.

That’s not why I learn languages, but it’s just another perk.

Honestly, slipping a secret Karen test in at the end after everyone was already exhausted was genius.

Not a Flight Attendant here but a pilot in the with 25+ years experience flying with my current employer and 40+ years in the industry. "Jennie.Weenie" absolutely "NAILS IT" (translation for those who do not understand the USA slang "NAILS IT" it means she is 100% correct-perfect score) regarding the flight attendant experience. "Flight Attendant world" is a different universe and Jeenie is the perfect ambassador! Thank you! And, I LOVE the insight you provide into the "Korean mom" and siblings family dynamics/culture. You provide some of the absolute BEST STUFF on the internet that I've found. Well done! - Respectfully

This is so weird - I work for a company in the middle east and when they interviewed me (IT position) in US, it was absolutely the most weirdest interview I ever experienced. Just like your situation, a large portion was a stress interview. The waiting room was jam packed, and this was a very large conference room with a stage. People were there suited and booted with briefcases filled with their previous work examples and I was there with slacks and shirt and had just my resume - resume they already had. When we were all waiting in the room, people would come out of the interview room completely disheveled. One guy came out and it seemed like he went into the restroom and splashed water all over his head.

My turn came, and there were three interviewers, very cold, one sternly stared at me without providing any facial gestures to my answers. They kept interrupting me with random questions, throwing me off my train of thought. "Why wasn't it done that way" "You dont have this on your resume, why?". They were also condescending to all my comments, like "oh thats an old technology" or "we dont do it that way at all". One interviewer left in the middle of the interview, came back later. Very very cold. I tried to complement some things I found on google about their company (to show Ive some some homework on their company) and they first pretended they didnt know what I was talking about, then said, oh that, that was so long ago, we dont even do that any more. Just completely blew me off. The key was patience! Patience! Patience!

I hated that interview but kept my professionalism and by the end, I was sure I didnt get the job. At the end, they abruptly said, "okay, were done, thanks for coming". I went outside to wait for the secretary to walk me out and interviewers took a break; when they came out, it was absolutely 180 degree change. Very cordial and weirdest part, the stern looking guy being the friendliest. They asked my hobbies, how I enjoyed my previous visits to the middle east, asked if I had any friends there. I was just like what the F is wrong with these people! I never went through this type of interview before. One guy sat in a couch next to me, I told him I don't think I did a good job, and he goes, don't worry about it.

The secretary walked me out and at this time, I couldn't wait to get back on the plane and go back to my life. She asked me how I did and I said, I dont think I'm going to make it. She said, she had a rough interview and didnt think she would get the job but they called her.

2 - 3 weeks later I get the call and... life has never been the same - in every way. 7 years now and counting. The interviewers are some of my good friends at work.

I guess this stress interview is something prevalent here?

Every since I was a kid my mom has told me she’s always wanted to be a flight attendant. When she graduated high school she went to an open day for an airline and they LOVED her. But she was 5’0 feet tall so they said no. It crushed her. She still thinks about it and wishes she was taller.

My cousin's daughter was hired as an Emirates flight attendant years ago. She stayed on for quite a few years before she resigned but she definitely enjoyed her time there ☺️

She has an amazing, open, and personable attitude... I guarantee that’s a huge part of why they picked her and why she’s so good at service. I’ve worked in service and that aspect is so effortful for me 😂
