MYTH: All Male Flight Attendants Are Gay

I think Mike has convinced us all males or females why being a flight attendant is a dream job. So where can I sign up??? 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

I once took a pottery class - and in that time and place, there was a definite assumption that only women were interested in that. One man signed up for it, and the nearly universal assumption was that he must be gay if he was taking that class. "Nearly" because before the end of the course it became obvious that he and one of the female students had developed a deep and personal relationship, and were dating outside class. I wonder if he was ever aware about the assumptions - we were all polite and didn't say anything to him, of course.

When I started flying, I was having a drink with a male Cabin crew.
I was asking him why flying ?
He said it was easy he was sitting in school wondering what he wanted to do in life and realised that 80% of cabin crew are female ( early 2000s) and of the other 20% ... 90% of them were gay.
So on a typical flight he would most likely be the only stright male Cabin crew. And CC are normally very good looking ( especially back then )
So his chances of getting laid with a good looking girl was pretty good !

8 years later he married a very attractive fellow cabin crew so that guy was a Genius!

Relevant: When I was in the Marine Corps I went to visit my younger brother at an Air Force base. He worked in the base hospital. I walked up to the main desk and there was a very pretty young lieutenant working the desk. With respect and military decorum I told her who I was looking for. She picked up a phone and said: "Hi Jim, it's me Julie. Your brother is here at the desk" (he was on a first name basis with an He had his own room in the barracks (I shared a squad bay with 23 other guys) and he had a waterbed (no kidding!!). I said: "Where can I join up?"
I then made the rounds of the recruiting offices.
Air Force: "We don't take Marines. You guys are psychos!!"
Coast Guard: "We don't take Marines. You guys are psychos!!"
Navy: "We don't take Marines. You guys are psychos!!" (Actually, I'd been on a Navy ship in a MarDet, but thought I'd try anyway).
Army-I could transfer over, but I'd have to go to junior college and Officer Candidate School, so I did that.

There was an episode on Suite Life of Zac and Cody, where it turned out that the hotel manager man did ballet as a kid, and everyone started mocking him cos they found it girly. Until he mentioned that he was the only boy in class, and all 20 pretty girls in tutu skirts were fighting for his attention. 😂

I can relate to this so much. I’m not gay but people always assume I am just becuase i have only some friends that are girls. Why can’t I be friends with everyone you know? It’s just super hard. So my advice is to not always assume people are something and they probably aren’t so yeah.

There’s just certain jobs that were historically predominantly women. Like flight attendants, nurses, hair stylists, secretaries, dental techs, social workers, decorators, house keepers, etc. I knew a guy who became a nurse but went back to med school bc he couldn’t deal with people thinking he had a “womanly” job.

My ex collegue who used to be a flight attendent in the 90s is in his 40s and unmarried. He is very feminine and loves to gossip. He hasn't publicly told us these words "I am gay" but we all just know it 😅
