Seth Ladd presents Dart, the open source web programming platform. In this video, Seth gives an overview of the philosophy and motivation of the language, reviews some of the interesting new language features like optional static types and isolates, and gives a demo of the editor.

This guy had an excellent introduction to this talk. People forget that Java had figured out the web decades ago and tend to bash java without any knowledge whatsoever. Even though i am more of an erlang guy, Java is the language i can't live without.

What's funny to me is that Dart's IDE is Eclipse, which is Java-powered, so trendy features like auto-completion and static analysis that this guy's attributing to the magic properties of Dart, are actually implemented in Java.

oh, and just a thought. you probably already thought of this, but DARTBoard would be a good name for the package repository (web interface/forums/etc).

I used to be a programmer like you, then I took a Dart in my knee :) Anyway, why did you develop Dart as a single thread language, when the progress is moving towards multicore systems?

The Dart editor is a custom build of Eclipse.

*cough, cough* Dart has so called "Isolates" which are lightweight processes which are communicating with the main thread via asynchronus message system, the entire thing was inspired by erlangs process system
