he deserved an emmy/golden globe for this episode and the "everybody leaves me" scene. he killed this role. coach taylor was a father to the panthers who came from broken homes.

I like how Coach Taylor didn't get mad at him for being drunk. Didn't get in his face asking if he drove. Just casually asked him. Didn't make it into a big deal.

Easily one of the most underappreciated and greatest shows I've seen on tv, I can constantly start it over and watch it from season 1 all the way through season 5 and it gets me every single time

Matt was really Coach's son in law throughout the whole series, they just didn't realize it until the end.

Give that boy a hug, dear god! I started watching the show after seeing this clip and Matt goes through so much. This scene was the icing on the cake, he just came from seeing his dead father, and you can tell he’s trying to still hold it together, barely, but he’s trying. Something as small as carrots is the straw that finally breaks the camel’s back.

It’s very realistic and heartbreaking, and Zach did an amazing job portraying how shattered Matt is. How the hell isn’t he in more movies?

This show should’ve won a lot more awards that’s it got credit for. One of the GOATS 🔥🔥

Still great to this day, Zach Gilford is such a great actor. Loved him in Midnight Mass as well

This was one of those emotional moments that really cemented Friday night lights as a legendary show

The entire episode he had people give him words of advice and wisdom. And Coach Taylor just knows he just needs an arm round his shoulder. What a man

I was waiting for this scene to be posted. It's the best in the series for me - the writing is a gut-punch and Zach Gilford's performance is incredible. His acting in this episode (and especially this scene) is one of my favorite performances in anything, ever. Just this one moment at the dinner table beautifully encapsulated Matt's character - his goodness and his struggles - while revealing a raw brokenness to his motivations. It's unnerving to see him have to confront those dark feelings and know that he can never go back. Matt's my favorite character in FNL and his dynamic with the Taylor's is also a favorite. This scene broke my heart, but it's why FNL is one of the greatest shows.

Zach Gilford gave the best performance in FNL in my opinion. Especially in this whole episode he is so brilliant, you can feel the way Matt feels in your bones. Then saw Zach in Midnight Mass. Again he is absolutely fantastic in it. Cast this guy in more things please.

Zach Gilford was a shining star on this series. Thus story line with his dad was superb. A highlight of the entire series.

I often times jump around on my opinion of who the greatest character arc and performance belongs to.

Landry with his endless loyalty and strong ability to see the truth of who people are and bring that out of them as well as his strong moral compass.

Riggins, with his overcoming the battle of loving a woman who went against every rule of being best friends, yet being unable to stop the free fall of falling for her, but still being there for his best friend in every other way he could while feeling all guilt that he deserved to be feeling. Then, to see him lose himself but begin finding the best version of himself through Lyla.

Sometimes, I even lean towards Street, as cheesy as the actor could be at times he still did a fantastic job showcasing a former star athletes sudden loss of what he trained for his whole life, the confusion and the struggles he had letting go of being the athlete he once was.

But it always comes back to Saracen, man. For one, a 16 year old with no mom around and a dad overseas, thrust into the starting qb position for a prodigious texas high school team, having to practice, go to school, go to work, and pay the bills at home all while taking care of your grandma whos going senile, plus romancing the head coaches daughter? Can we blame him for breaking down and breaking our hearts time and again for the pain he sometimes lets rise to the top? Or for making us cry over and over with his strong heart and the way he exhibits his love to the people who have always been there for him. "Youre the only one who never left me. I am not about to leave you." 😢

Everyone starts this show for Tim, but they stay for Matt

Coach Taylor was always the father Saracen needed in his life. Matt had to be the man of the house too early in life. Coach Taylor was the one who would always be there for him, and who taught him everything. This scene gets me every time.

This scene is great when you consider the whole episode. Several people trying to make Saracen feel better with grand gestures and words. But you know all he needed was Coach and his silent support
