How to Read Guitar TAB & Chord Boxes (Guitar Basics - Lesson 6)

Guitarists don’t need to read traditional notation, instead we have Tablature, aka TAB. TAB is a graphic representation of what frets we are playing on what string on the guitar.

Each horizontal line represents a string; each number represents a fret on that string.

I wish I had a guitar instructor like Andy, he explains everything beautifully. He doesn't just want to finish and go home.

Andy, I see it as the TAB being upside down, regardless of the sound of the string, because when I look down on my guitar, I am first seeing the THICKEST string, "E, " the 6th string, NOT the thinnest, "E, " 1st string. Of course I am not a teacher such as yourself, but from a student's point of view, particularly a beginner, this is very confusing and I'm not the only one who sees this.  How will I get used to reading the Tabs correctly? Thanks.

Hi! I've been following your channel on YouTube. It really helped me know how to read tabs but can you please also tell me which finger should be used for specific fret.

What does it mean if it had a thick line at the top?

Hi Andy,
I noticed that some of the cord maps have "dotted" circle (black- colored inside) and some have circles which are white-colored inside. What is the meaning of that?

Because all chord boxes are the same size how do you know when to go down like what if one was on the 12 fret, it doesn't show that on the chord boxes because they are all the same size so you might do all the chords in the same area

So does everyone chord diagram show the first fret, or does it not matter what fret it is?
