Star Trek 4 is the working title for an American science fiction film in development at Paramount Pictures, based on the television series Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry. It is intended to be the fourteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the fourth installment in the reboot series. There have been several different iterations of the film in development since 2015.

Development of a new Star Trek film following Star Trek Beyond (2016) was revealed before the release of that film, with J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay writing. In December 2017, Quentin Tarantino pitched his own idea for a new Star Trek film to producer J. J. Abrams, and development began separately from the Beyond sequel. S. J. Clarkson was hired to direct the latter in April 2018, but negotiations with stars Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth ended that August with the actors leaving the project. Noah Hawley was hired in November 2019 to write and direct a new version of the franchise. Tarantino revealed in January 2020 that he had decided not to direct his Star Trek film. Hawley's version was placed on hold that August to allow Paramount to decide on the best direction for the franchise. Kalinda Vazquez was set to write the script for a new film based on her own original idea in March 2021, while a separate script was developed by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Matt Shakman was hired to direct the latter film in July, and the script was being re-written by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires in November. Negotiations for the return of Pine and the rest of the main cast from the reboot series began in February 2022. The film is scheduled for release on December 22, 2023.

If they plan on anything with Picard they better hurry as Patrick Stewart is no spring chicken. It would be sad if the next Chris Pine Star Trek-led movie would be his last, I really like him as Kirk.

Infinite number of scenarios for our entertainment. Star Trek will never end (hurrah!). A role in sci-fi that's not shared with most genre, is to usher new scientific thinking and venues (like the iconic comm that became our flip cell phone). The best future for us is pretty much described in this franchise - well, to my taste. Unfortunately, I am no big fan of Piccard. He plays a serious introvert, with most action taking place in his head, while the franchise is reputed to be an action-packed, extroverting, entertaining ride. Thanks for the update! Cheers!

I would love to see more from the TNG/DS9/Voyager Timelines. I really feel that is one of the golden eras of Star Trek. As much as I like TOS, and that timeline, there is a lot that can be explored within the TNG era, or just thereafter without disrupting the timeline.

I seem to recall reading somewhere (I cannot remember where now, sorry) that a rumor was a follow up to Star Trek: Picard was to be Star Trek: Legacy and would take up where season 3 left off about Picard's son Jack and the crew of the now renamed Titan to Enterprise but I don't know what ever became of that. Maybe they couldn't get the principle actors to commit? (Scheduling conflicts, things like that) If someone knows then perhaps they would be kind enough to comment please?

Well, if you want to really nit pick about it, the "origin" film set decades before could only be set in the divergent timeline if it was after the Kelvin was destroyed, as the timeline didn't diverge until the Narada travelled to the past... Anything before that would be set in the prime timeline, unless they come up with a new plot device to change where the timeline split.

What if STAR TREK 4 explorers the Kelvin Timelines’ mirror verse. And picks up when ST:TOS’s episode: Mirror, Mirror left off. Like have the new crew play the last few scenes of Mirror Mirror for the tie-in and then build from there.

I LOVED the Chris Pine Star treks.... way better than all the series ....this one is ridiculous...jj abrams films still the best
