Star Trek 4 is the working title for an American science fiction film in development at Paramount Pictures, based on the television series Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry. It is intended to be the fourteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the fourth installment in the reboot series. There have been several different iterations of the film in development since 2015.

Development of a new Star Trek film following Star Trek Beyond (2016) was revealed before the release of that film, with J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay writing. In December 2017, Quentin Tarantino pitched his own idea for a new Star Trek film to producer J. J. Abrams, and development began separately from the Beyond sequel. S. J. Clarkson was hired to direct the latter in April 2018, but negotiations with stars Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth ended that August with the actors leaving the project. Noah Hawley was hired in November 2019 to write and direct a new version of the franchise. Tarantino revealed in January 2020 that he had decided not to direct his Star Trek film. Hawley's version was placed on hold that August to allow Paramount to decide on the best direction for the franchise. Kalinda Vazquez was set to write the script for a new film based on her own original idea in March 2021, while a separate script was developed by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Matt Shakman was hired to direct the latter film in July, and the script was being re-written by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires in November. Negotiations for the return of Pine and the rest of the main cast from the reboot series began in February 2022. The film is scheduled for release on December 22, 2023.

The Abrahms cast is my favorite. Pine, Quinto, etc. Would love to see them together again. If they needed someone to replace Checkov I always thought West Side Story's Ben Cook would be a good actor to be the new Checkov.

Star Trek 4 to be the last chapter of the JJ Abrams Saga OH MY GOD YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HAPPY I AM TO HEAR THIS! As much as I love the actors and characters I hate their portrayal of the original crew and cast I hate the fact that all JJ Abrams Star Trek movies remained as the alternate reality I kept saying When are we going to get back to the original reality It became so redundant! There are so many amazing novels out there about the original cast that captivated me more than any script that JJ Abrams has come up with and his Paramount so cheap not to pay These authors are now the surviving family members cuz I know many of them are dead now and bye the rights to these extraordinary novels make a movie script doing them justice and for God's sakes Can you please tell Chris Pine to quit acting like a spoiled brat or should I say those who direct them and produce him and interpret his Captain Kirk character every movie I see with Chris Pine not playing in a Star Trek movie is more like Captain Kirk Then when he plays Captain Kirk in the JJ Abrams saga and alternate reality Oh that's right it's an alternate reality so in the alternate reality Captain Kirk is portrayed is a whiny punk kid and not a man! And why ladies and gentlemen of Paramount Why is it always regardless who does these homage TV series or movies of Star Trek everybody bends backwards to pick the right actor and the right makeup in the right persona for Mr Spock but all the other characters look nothing like Scotty Sulu Chekov Uhura or Captain Kirk ... WHY IS THAT? IT'S SO BLATANTLY OBVIOUS IN OUR FACES THAT I FIND THAT YOU MAKE ONE PERSON CONSISTENT TO THE ORIGINAL CAST AND ALL THE REST WHO GIVES A DAMN WHAT AN INSULT THAT IS TO YOUR AUDIENCE AND FANS ... ISN'T THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO RESPECTS THE LEGACY OF THE CREW OF STAR TREK FROM THE 1960S MY GOD!

Part of the problem here is the odd death of the actor playing Checkov. That character is in Roddenberry's time-line is supposed to be alive. Star Wars attempted deep fakes with some success.

Bring back William Shatner as Kirk. He has said he would do it and be happy to use AI. He is the original and the best. It would be epic. After all, he is older than Patrick Stewart but in better condition, and the Picard series was brilliant. I saw the 40th anniversary of The Search For Spock on the big screen just a week ago, and it still blows away any of the new reboots of the original characters.

Star Trek 4 needs to be a resolution to the various different timelines and ending in a satisfactory tone the Kelvin timeline after that letting the cast go forward.
