Nintendo 64 RAM Expansion

I use a butter knife to pull the expansion pak out. It’s probably not a good idea. But it works.

The n64 used a rather new kind of ram call rambus or rdram. This type of ram requires termination when the second slot isn’t used. Desktop computers came with this kind of memory in the early 2000’s. Fortunately ddr ram became the norm as it slowly took over because of its lower cost and ease of use at the cost of running a little slower.

I remember when I first got Majora's mask I couldn't play it because I didn't have that 4 MB turbo ram. So to even play that game I had to go back to Walmart and buy donkey Kong for the 64 which came bundled with the turbo ram. I had to buy another game to play the game I wanted to play!

or you could just use the plastic peice that goes over the expansion pak

When I got my n64 in 2023 I also ordered an expansion pack but when I got the console it already had one so I traded one for sonic mania. That was actually a good mistake

Got my n64 form a yardsale years ago. Had a weird type of expansion pack that actually replaced the lid snd and sat on top on the console.

bit of technical history. The N64 was one of the first devices to use RAMBUS memory (Remember that in some Pentium IV systems?). Rambus needs to be installed in pairs, alternatively, you can install a single memory stick AND a required terminator stick. The Jumper Pack was the terminator card for RAMBUS.
