A BBC profile of Somalia says that country, after decades of pure chaos, has been "inching toward stability." It looks like no one has told the pirates that infest the ocean around the small nation on the horn of Africa, though—in their efforts to get whatever money they can in ransoms for ship crews and cargo they've become such a huge problem for freighters that some shipping lines are hiring actual damn security forces.

As you see in the video above, those security guys get put through their paces, too. In this video made on a bodycam, we watch as one guard behind a bulwark of sandbags pours lead down on small approaching pirate boats—and the pirates appear to fire back.

It looks as though the Somalian pirate menace has even created a niche within the private security industry itself. The 2015 promotional video above for Seagull Maritime Security proves these outfits have been meeting the need for a few years now.

So while the shipping industry has clearly gotten wise since the events that inspired the 2013 Tom Hanks film Captain Phillips, it doesn't look like the pirates are necessarily learning any lessons—they've even attacked military transports.

Я был знаком с одним румынским моряком с громадного сухогруза. Он был в международном экипаже, он расказал, как сомалийские обезьяны в аденском заливе каким то образом забрались на корабль. Вахтеные не долго думая открыли брандсбойды, и смыли нечисть за борт, хорошенько помолотив этих придурков об разные надстройки. Были переломаны руки, ноги, ребра и прочиеповреждение. Но главное было потом, когдапришли в Европу на разгрузку. Экипаж в полном составе был снят с корабля и арестован за нанесение ущерба здоровью бедных рыбаков. Оказывается, это быдло еще и имело международную юридическую поддержку. Гембель был еще тот и длился почти полгода. Потому правильно поступали португальцы и испанцы из военных конвоев. Они их просто топили и концы в воду. Советую вспомнить фильм о захвате судна с американским экипажем, когда капитан попал в заложники. Этот фильм имел под собой реальную основу, но историю не довели до конца. После захвата пиратов в их защиту вписалась какая-то группа европейских адвокатов и находящиеся на содержании у бандитов законники чуть было не отмазали пиратов, да по просьбе США вмешалась в дело юридическое агентство интерпола в результате и бандюг посадили и их защитников. А вот это показали какуюто постановочную ерунду.

With how the music was playing and the boss way the guard came up the stairs, I was waiting for that first guy to just pull out a pistol as soon as the pirate up the rope. I imagined in that scenario the guard was like, “go the fuck down that rope or I’ll blast you back into the sea.” My disappointment is immeasurable.

I'm confused by alot of this, first of all what the heck is happening at 8:59 ? Second what was that clip in the beginning of the video with that single guy climbing up the side of a huge ship, in just shorts with the rest of the guys in the swimming in the water? Where was the pirate boat? Were they planning on having one man in shorts with no shoes of anything soaking wet take over that huge vessel? And why did only one old man go to stop him, he walked calmly up the stairs too and then let the man climb over the railing...WTF is this video? This is the weirdest "combat" I've ever seen make absolutely no sense.
