2017 Mazda 6 2.5 Skyactiv-G sedan review

The Mazda 6 faces the chagrin of having to compete against sacred monsters - I'm looking at the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb and Ford Mondeo - but it also has to outclass rising pretenders like Renault's Talisman and ambitious newcomers like the new Opel Insignia.

In helping it do that, Mazda granted its sedan with a mid-cycle facelift that should make the Mazda 6 even more up to the task. We drove the soon-to-be unicorn, old-school, 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated version and here's what we discovered.

2017 6 speed manual chiming in. This is such a great car. I love that it's extremely underrated, but then again I also want the car to get the recognition it deserves.

I bought a Mazda 6 GT 3 months ago. I've put over 5, 000 miles on it already. I really like the car and would purchase it again.

Pros: Looks great inside and out (white w/black & white interior), gas mileage is really good (I've averaged over 34 mpg; 80% open road), engine has great power and good pickup, nice/comfortable/adjustable steering wheel, excellent road response/handling, driver assist features work well/reliably, heads-up display is nice, other electronics are convenient and work well, all buttons can be reached easily (with the exception of odd placement of the fuel release button which is a little hidden).

Neutral: Seat comfort ok, inside storage ok, very good sound system on GT model, but it is hard to appreciate due to cabin noise.

Cons: Cabin is a little loud (especially on hwy), suspension is stiff (do feel the road; however, I believe this is also due to the 19" wheels), trunk is a little small to me.

Another comment mentioned paint issues. I have a chip or two already. If this continues, I would consider this a significant flaw. The pearl/white is a tri-color so it is very hard to fix. Will see what the future brings in this regard!

I just replaced a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE with 280K miles. Great car with absolutely no significant problems. I'm hoping I get that kind of reliability and experience from Mazda. So far, I am very pleased and enjoying it. I am actually really enjoying the fact that I do not see hundreds of these cars on the road. I like that I'm not driving the same thing as everyone else. I drove several other manufacturers 2017/2018 models and liked the 2017 Mazda 6 the best. I will add that I was not as impressed with the basic or touring models and feel the extra expense for the GT was worth it.

I did buy the 2017 Mazda 6 Gt and love it, If the nit wits that complain that it does not have a V6 let them go out and buy a Camry or Honda . The Mazda ascetically looks way sharper and has more than enough power for me and I will take the money I am saving on fuel in a year and go on vacation. I owned a 05 Passat from new and went through 3 cv replacements in 150k plus it looked like a box on wheels.

I just got my Mazda 6 and I love it! Transmission is smooth and does not feel underpowered even this is only 2.5 4 cyl. Only thing I want to improve or add imo is backseat headroom could have been better. Need to add an indent headroom at the backseat for taller passenger. Lastly, Madza should add a USB port at the back for people if they want to charge their gadgets. Other than that, this vehicle is top notch.
