I noticed this on my 2016 but after about a minute it all calms down. I have a lot confidence in it's reliability.

You literally pointed out every noise that I was hearing and explained it to me thank you . This is my 1st Mazda

People often asked me why my car made such a loud start, without knowing all these things I was able to explain that it is normal. Thank you, now I can tell them exactly why.

At first I thought something was wrong with mine because my 1.5 Mazda3 made very similar noises, but glad to know it’s normal. Almost 200k km’s as of now and the car’s been excellent in terms of reliability 👍🏻

The engine sounds different from others because of the high compression. Idle can almost sound like a diesel.

Whew. Thank you for this. I just bought a used 3 & my first morning start had me panicked & shut it off & restarted it with out any noise. This was extremely helpful.

This helped me tremendously. I’m used to driving Honda for 5years. And this is a huge difference from what I’m used to. I thought I got a lemon 😅 thank you for your video super helpful!!!

WOW!!! Thank you so much. I just bought (my first Mazda) a CX-5 2023 and couldn't figure out the rattling that stops when the car cold starts but stopped when it idled down. This makes me happy to know it's not an issue.

This is an excellent video! I wish more people did this for all cars.

Fantastic video. So glad I stumbled across this. Coming from a German vehicle, I was concerned about my brand new CX5, and why there were so many random loud sounds and high revs at a cold start up. So glad to learn that this is normal function of this manufacturers engine. The mechanic had indicated as such, but I was skeptical. Having seen your video along with these explanations, it has alleviated those concerns.

I was so worried after changing very very old worn out spark plugs and an oil change, it started sounding more like this. While engine performance seemed much better and healthier, I was caught off guard by the knocking noise, but it's just because of compression! Thank you for this video

To add onto this, it is also called a GDI pump and it's like the fuel pump in the fuel tank except it operates at MUCH higher pressure and runs off of the camshaft (hence the clacking sound).

THANK GOD you covered the clicking sound coming from the right side. I thought the 4th cylinder was saying bye bye. Thanks a lot, great video quality too!

Now that makes sense. Of course changing the timing at start up will mean a change to the sound, which is added to the increased revs. Thanks for the explanation 👍👍

This was my thought last year when I changed the oil (original 5w 30) and I thought that the sound is a little bit noisier than before, but hearing now in your video, its all normal and identical.
I love my mazda ❤️

Wow! Thank you for this. I recently took my car for service and thought they did something wrong. I was about to return it, then I came across this explanation 👋

Wow, thanks for this! I have the same engine in a Mazda 6 and always wondered about this. Thanks again for the explanation, well done.

This explains the clacking sounds I here sometimes. When cold it's loud but when warm it occasionally clacks.

FIY the clicking noise at the 2:20 mark is coming from the vacuum pump not the fuel pump. In general, sound in a direct injection engine is mostly generated by clicking injectors (as the solenoid within needs to overcome a very high fuel pressure). In mazda’s case they have added a vacuum pump for the brake booster, as scyactiv engines do not generate vacuum at idle, and it is the primary source of the clicking noise you hear
