No offense, but you didn't really prepare for your flight.
You knew going ahead that food wasn't included & was limited. You should've packed a lunch or eaten a big meal at LAX. You didn't download your videos/movies for offline watching; you should do this for ANY airline as flight wifi doesn't have the bandwidth for streaming & can go out at any time.
All the marks you gave against ZIPAIR are things you could've prepared for.

LCC (Low Cost Carrier) is what you pay for and what you get. I always prepare: eat big meal at departure airport, bring own food / snacks, pre-download movies / shows onto my device - never rely on internet access.

Thanks for the info. I’m planning a trip with a friend next Spring to fly into Seoul and travel through Korea and Japan and fly out of Tokyo. I’m on a tight budget so I’m pretty excited to have found ZipAir, it’s totally worth it to me to miss out on some amenities in order to have a few hundred extra dollars for the actual trip

When it comes to inflight entertainment I always like to download tons of stuff on to my own personal tablet in advance for just the reason you had to deal with. You just can’t depend on the airlines stuff to work correctly anymore.

Not worth it anymore. American Airlines is slashing prices to beat ZIPAIR on the same routes. Fare is about the same but American get you full meals free and it flies into Haneda instead of Nartia, so you are saving on transit cost as well. I hope JAL lower prices on ZIPAIR or this airline won't last long.
