Zipair July 2023 Review - Do Not Make My Mistake with Carry-on Luggage Limit!

In this video, we'll share my experience with traveling with zipair route trip between San Jose California US and Narita Tokyo Japan, primarily focusing on the carry on baggage, luggage and check in baggage, luggage weight limit and whether they count backpack, purse, or everything to the carry on weight limit. What to do if you exceed the carry on weight limit of 7kg and how much will the charge you if you exceed the total 7kg carry on weight limit. The goal is for you to avoid making my carry on luggage mistake to save you money, hassle and stress.

We'll give an update on my experience with zipair between San Jose and Narita in July 2023, and whether Zipair is still worth it. In particular, we'll share my experience with the toilet, cleanliness, cabin, and mainly whether it's clean or dirty, or could use some more frequency cleaning.

Start pulling clothes out of the bags and putting them on. Wear a couple shirts and pants. Wear your heaviest shoes. Fill your pockets with small items to get under the weight for your bags. When you board the plane. Go to the bathroom and take all the extra clothes off and stuff them in your carry on bag.

Highly recommend buying a small portable digital scale which you can take with you on your trip. This way you can weigh all your lyggage in your hotel room to make sure all suitcases do not exceed the weight limit... before going to the airport. A good small digital scale costs less than 20 bucks.

In February, I flew Zipair from San Jose to Tokyo. They did NOT weigh my carry on backpack either way. I did bring 2 bags, under the 7kg limit (I weigh my bags before going to the airport). On the way back I prepaid for an extra 5 kg because I wanted to buy souvenirs. I think it was $38 for the extra 5 kg, I used my Tokyo hotel scale to make sure that I was under 12 kg, but Zipair didn't weigh my carryon bags. The flight was fine, I was lucky that I had the entire 3 seats to myself (going to Tokyo).

I'm planning to go back next February again, this time from SFO. I've decided to splurge and booked the lie flat seats. They increased the extra carryon to 8 kg (instead of 5 kg), which cost $38. The average price of economy tickets from SFO to Narita nonstop is $1400. So paying a total of $2200 roundtrip for lie flat seats, with 15 kg carryon, 2 meals and I picked my seats is a great deal.

Going back from Japan to US they are very strict when it comes to weight limit of the luggage, this happens to me last year they weighed in all the stuff I am carrying, backpack ended up paying for extra fee, they knew you going to go crazy shopping from Japan, good thing most of the items ate tax free, so paying extra is okay but you’re right the hassle of 😠 talking to the front desk is crazy but hey Zipair still cheaper.

Thank you for sharing your experience with ZIPAIR. I will be flying from LA to Narita in Business Class. Price I paid was $2, 800 round trip. It is still much cheaper than the primary Airline's business class; this price is about the Premium economy class of major airlines. Premium Economy is a joke and scam, from my experience. So, ZIPAIR business class is a reasonable and valuable deal. That said, thank you for the information about the overweight charge for languages. The vast majority of people carry a lot of stuff in their suitcases. I am sure mine will be heavy. But at the end of the day, the ZIPAIR price is still worth a great deal of money.

One tip, keep a duty free bag, if it is over just go and take some stuff out and out it in the duty free bag, or you can wear all the clothes in the check bag

Booked my first flight with ZIPAIR and will fly out within a week. I chose them because of the $207 total one-way from LAX > NRT.

I purchased one check-in baggage option for $54. As for my carry on, I get one carry on and one personal item as long as it doesn’t exceed the 7kg/15lb limit, correct?

Thanks for providing your experience 😂. I will be flying ZipAir on my next trip to Japan and wondering if you may kindly help advise from your experience regarding the size of carryon luggage. Online website for ZipAir shows the sizes allowed for carryons (I have no luggage or gym bag that fits the criteria) but your video shows luggage bigger than the allowable size. Are they strict on the size of your carryon luggage and bags?

Can someone confirm that they weigh your back pack/ purse etc normally or did they simply do it in this case to prove a point since you were trying to do the 7kg x 4 people total limit debate with them?

When she recommended tossing your stuff, you were much kinder than how I would’ve responded. My smart mouth would’ve been like, you go first. 😅

Is there a limit for the dimensions of the 30kg check in baggage? Because on zipair's website it says that the check in baggage should be 21x15 inches, which is the size of a 20kg suitcase more or less (which doesnt make sense), and I read on reddit that there's no limit for the dimensions as long as it doesn't exceed the 30kg mark, very confusing

Obvious ZIP is weighing everything because somebody ruined it for the rest of us. Yes, now pay up if you have to load down.

So I plan to bring back pack and one carry on luggage that includes all my clothes…the luggage at 21.5” is approved for international travel . Should I just get the premium package so that I can avoid them weighing my back pack and carry on luggage?

So I am brining a checked bag that weighs 22kg. The maximum for zip air is 30kg. If my carry on is over 7kg, cant I just swap things into my checked bag?

Zipair forces us to add on 30kg of checked baggage.. but allow only 1 piece which is not a common thing for me when traveling. They should have other option like 20kg or 25kg in a lower charge.. not so impressive to me

Fanny packs? Briefcase? Tote bags? Crossbody bag? Body pouch? They weigh thoes? If they hang on the body also considered carryons?
