Pre Germination Grass Seed | MicroGreene , Fall Dethatching | Help me fix my Ugly Lawn 2022, Pt 7

In part 7, I try something for the first time: Pre-Germination of seed. We begin by prepping the lawn by using 3 different scarifiers / dethatchers. ( I will be giving an full review on these in Spring of 2023). Had some interesting results to be sure. After the clean up of the debris, a storm system was coming in and surprise, surprise....we experienced WIND!! I had lost the footage of the steps to perform the pre germination of the grass seed that was used in the video, but I did record and go through the steps, one by one. Then we mix the seed with milorganite that allows the seed to dry up and be able to spread it from by way of a broadcast spreader. We then apply 18-0-1 GreenePunch and 0-0-2 MicroGreene. This Ugly Lawn project for 2022 has come to completion. The last video in this series will be a review of the results and an overview with Trent.

Very nice. Could the pre germinated seed be mixed with the Scotts triple seed starter fertilizer instead of Milorganite?

What rate did you use on the spreader? Milorganite and seed have different rate applications.

So to get it right - 1st day leave submerge, 2nd leave drained, 3rd day submerged, but drain immediately and let sit drained every day until germinated. So day one is only day submerged for full 24hrs? Did you cover bucket? Top or tarp? Also how much seed per bag of milorginite? Also water area once you lay it down or wait a day then water ? Did you add any top soil? Either before or after spreading?

To pregerminate I submerged KBG seed for 5-6 days, changing the water 2x day. Then I dumped the seed into a big tote and raked it around throughout the day to somewhat dry the seed. Then mixed with a slow-release fertilizer (similar to milorganite) as a carrier, then spread (with Scotts seed-friendly triple action as a pre emergent) over loosely disturbed soil containing some nutrients, then covered with straw and kept moist. Will update here in a few days when I can see the results. Chicagoland for reference.

Thanks for the video man, I'm just doing my research now - lots of similar videos - yours had one thing different, wanted your opinion on where you came up with the idea: others soak the seeds underwater and then replace the water regularly. Your video seems to be one of the few who drain it and store moist seeds only (not submerged). Any idea which way is better?

killed my lawn when i dumped old seed water out on it. Also returned the 805 cannot get parts any more . The tines..

I have soaked and drained for almost 3 weeks. Not a sprout. I think I got bad seed.
