My biggest problem is the people telling me MY carbon footprint is too large are flying around the world, living in huge homes and have 3 cars!

I don’t know why media doesn’t talk about the carbon footprint of corporations. They are more responsible than we are. We should also cut our own carbon footprint but corporations need to also.

Elton John explained it to me perfectly. You fly around the world in your private jet and offset your carbon footprint with money

Blaming "everyone" is a sheer lack of common sense here. Consumers do NOT get to choose what products are made or even sold. That is still 100% up to industry and politics. To say that a single person's car is a "part" of the problem is a humongous overstatement. One car is merely a fraction OF a fraction. The rich and famous are STILL the ones who make decisions to these environmentally damaging products. No one else.

Don't understand why human is restricting themselves rather than use science and develop technology to conquer the challenge

The thing is there is a logical flaw in this vid: An individual does not create much of a carbon footprint that is within their ability to manage. (as mentioned in 1:58 )
The things that are out of their ability to manage is such things like buying a E-car to reduce carbon footprint but we can't choose the resources needed to make them which creates a carbon footprint.
Can we choose renewable energy the electricity companies give us?
Can we choose the type of plastic companies use for our bottles?
Yes an individual can cut down their carbon footprint but such effort is in vain if a company is producing a thousand times that, which begs the question; should we be focusing on changing how companies source things rather than an individuals carbon footprint?

See if people weren’t in poverty then maybe they could think about all this

I converted a council house as part of CLG's retrofit for the future in 2015. I installed air source heat pumps and solar thermal. There was some massive problems:
1. The heat pumps were noisy and bulky.
2. You need to fit a hot water boiler, where if your house is small?
3. The heat when you want it is not responsive as gas heating so you need to plan when you want to be warm.
4. Heat pumps, ground or air, only work effectively if the property is totally insulated and virtually air tight. I had to fit 100mm thermal insulation to all internal walls.
5. Double glazing wasn't effective. I needed triple K glass
6. The control device is complicated and needs summer/winter timing programs
7. I also fitted solar panels, but the roof was not new/strong enough to support the panels and needed to be replaced.
8. I wanted ground source heat pumps but you need to bury several large coils 10ft into the ground/garden.
9. Take up the floor and isolate every joist from the brickwork
Total cost £143k
After 12 months with a tenant the heat pump had to be removed as they couldn't work it properly. All in all its sounds a good idea for middle/high income earners but your average tenant in a 1940's semi will never be able to have it.

This is what happens when in the west we import most goods from china 12, 000 nautical miles away. When we could manufacture here on home soil but that's all been sold down the river.

Hey Mr. BBC man. What is the carbon footprint of a Harrier jump jet?

The more we're told we must reduce our plastic, the more things are needlessly wrapped in it. Washing powder for example. Also, a tiny proportion of this plastic can be recycled, and much of that still winds up being dumped in places like Turkey, and not recycled at all. Plastic manufacturing needs to be curtailed first and foremost.

This really has to be done on a policy level. You can’t encourage people to spend, and save the planet at the same time.

How are certain aspects of one's carbon footprint unavoidable? Can one really control each area and try to change those? #Livetree #fairweb
