Excel - Save to Computer not OneDrive - Change the Excel default Save location
By default, Excel tries to save all your files to OneDrive, particularly in the later versions of Windows. Learn how to find this Excel default setting and how to change it so that Excel will default to saving files to your computer in future. This will save you a lot of frustration if you don't want to use OneDrive as I most certainly don't!

As an alternative, keep the "save to computer by default" box checked, but make the default local file location blank. This way, if you want to save an existing file as another version with a different filename, the default save file location is the same subfolder as the original file. This is the same way Excel operated before Microsoft's hijacking - - er - - update.

Thanks for the video! Was driving me nuts and only started a month ago I think. Most importantly for me, your settings return us to the recent past situation being if you had already saved the file, the file save as defaults to the last file location not Onedrive. I found Onedrive impossibly confusing and frustrating and ditched it for Google Drive.

Worked great for Excel thanks, I had both "Autosave to cloud" and "Save to Computer by default" checked, which was causing errors every time it tried to autosave.
UNFORTUNATELY, I'm getting and error when I try the identical change for WORD. "The server drafts location you entered for offline editing is not valid or you do not have permission to access that location. Specify a location on your local computer" .
