Something weird about the smart car is that due to the cabin's roll cage's round shape, they are surprisingly strong and have a fantastic safety record.

Smart cars are great for big cities like NYC! It’s not only about gas mileage but also PARKING which could save you a lotta time

I've driven my 2008 Smart since it was new, all over the country. Never felt underpowered and it's still a kick to drive. I never feel unsafe and I never have trouble parking it. But, I can even park it in my garage, which has a lot of stuff in it. Looking at your garage, I can't imagine you could park a Schwinn in there.

i notice that most people that hate them have never driven them. i have had mine for a while, and its my favorite car to drive. easy to drive and park, and was super cheap to by used with only 30k miles

Our Smartie is the most fun car to drive since I had a street rod. Everyone notices it, great mileage & easy parking, very low maintenance. Not everyone needs a Suburban to go places!

These cars are good for big cities like London or Paris. In the USA everything is way more spread out and people love driving flatbed trucks around for no apparent reason.

I bought a smart car in 2009, after doing research on it. It had a five star safety Arty with Geico at the time, AND the frame of the car is a roll cage, just like a race car! You are surrounded by airbags, and the steering column does not come into your chest. So, to further these statements, I am living proof that you are safer in this I was involved in a car accident in 2015 with my smart car. While taking a left turn, a car chose to pass the car behind me, and hit me in the driver side door going 55 to 60 mph! Yes, I survived that! My smart car was totaled, and I got a neck injury, but survived! My cars roll cage in fact saved me! Also it is excellent in snow! Do your homework people! I did!

i have to disagree with you, I had 2 smart cars, one was an electric and the other one was gas, they were very nice cars and very peppy never had problem with them and you can park them literally anywhere, and driving them in NY city was awesome because you can move all the way to the front of the line on the traffic light.I drove them at almost 100 MPH and never felt scared. unfortunately Smart is only built now with Electric motor.

everyone talks about not feeling safe in a smart on the highway but i have a feeling everybody is going to notice you including semi trucks.

There's always going to be controversy with driving a smart car from the general public, who for the most part, sees it as a passing fad. I've driven one for ten years now and am aware of its shortcomings. I use it as a daily driver for general transportation and running errands in the city. Cheap maintenance and insurance along with ease of parking in sub sized spaces are big pluses. Competent driving skills and judicious defensive driving render most accident scenarios moot. If you don't practice those then by all means do not drive a small car.
For more recreational driving I use my Harley or Yamaha and for more serious driving or road trips, I take the M3.
I follow "to each, his own."

If you live in a city like NYC and you want a car, that's the way to go. Finding parking here, is either crazy expensive or extremely hard to find.

I bought an electric smart car for 3200 bucks, runs great for everything under 70 miles per day
