Having experienced an "ego" death on LSD during a party I can fully agree the "self" is a hallucination built masterfully by the brain. Quite the shocking experience not being able to determine one's own existence and the boundaries between internal and external. It's like being dead, but alive.

The day psychedelics are brought into the hands of passionate scientists is the day humanity will start to understand itself.

8:13 Nobody's gonna pay respects to this accidental grand slam? This is too wholesome.

A couple of years ago, one night, I was about to propose to my girlfriend when my roommate Joseph barged into the room out of nowhere, tripped and fell over, breaking a glass table with his face. Totally ruined the mood. Now, I didn't know Joseph THAT well, don't even remember where he was from, but let' just say I put my plans on hold to help him through his injuries.

Joseph had gotten big glass shard in his eye, making him completely blind in that eye. He was walking around with one of those cotton pads on his eye for a couple of months. Then suddenly, he disappeared, along with my girlfriend

Apparently they'd bonded during the time after his injuries, and eloped together, left me behind without as much as a note. I tried to track them down, but never could.

In conclusion, if it hadn't been for cotton eye Joe, I'd have been married a long time ago. Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, cotton eye Joe?

really really cool.
That hallucination simulation definitely had a little bit of LSD vibe to it. Though the animal face theme was a little strong, typically one might see one person turn into an animal, but then someone else might look like something else, rather than everyone following a theme. There would also be more melting of borders between objects. But overall, it definitely is very closely accurate, at least as far as a simulation can get, to the experience of psychedelic hallucinations. I wonder if that was your inspiration, or if maybe you were going more for schizophrenic hallucinations instead, which honestly I haven't experienced, so I couldn't really comment on the accuracy.

Still, very interesting to watch. For some reason, even I flinched a bit when the knife came to the manequin's stomach, even though I just watched it on a screen. I can imagine it would have been quite unnerving to experience in person lol

Tibetan Buddhism goes into great detail about this subject.

I would love to study more about the subconscious and the human mind watching this video has got me curious and wondering more about how we see the world around us

Interesting, they use the word "consciousness" while only addressing what is being experienced, and ignoring the fundamental core of conscious-awareness that is experiencing.
What kind of inquiry is that? Kind of like trying to discover the essential mysteries of a painting without investigating into the painter. Or researching into dreams without acknowledging the dreamer.
Indeed there is a universe of moving and changing things, but if you want to really discover what is going on, the real key is turning around to recognize and see into the non-moving silence that is looking.

Around 1:52 was an example of the most unpractical way to have a quick conversation. Meet in the middle of the country side and talk about the wonderful things in the lab thats at a different location. LOL

This brings me back. I studied Neuroscience at the University of Sussex, but that has been quite some time ago. Nice to see the buildings again. So many new findings have been made since. Sigh. I would do it all over again, especially with today's technology.

If anyone is really interested in deeper thinking topics, this video is from a document on Netflix called The Most Unkown. And I highly recommend watching the whole thing

Anyone else worried about the blue shirt that says "Sackler center for consciousness" on it? Funny that the people behind most of the opioid addictions that can eventually lead to permanent loss of consciousness, are studying what they helped take from so many people.
