The Strange Reason You Can Hallucinate

Hallucinations explain where your consciousness comes from.

Your brain is a complex organ that makes you...YOU! Your consciousness is controlled by a variety of molecules and receptors in your brain which are studied while hallucinating. New research places participants in an fMRI machine to study their brains while hallucinating, it shows a decrease in the default mode network. The default mode network is a brain region that controls worrying, reason, motivation, reflecting on your past and planning your future. It is the part of the brain that builds the story of you! Your consciousness, fear of mortality, obsession with the ego starts to dissolve when you hallucinate, and your brain starts to add information and use the neurology of your brain in different ways to cope leading to a hallucination. All of this research is leading to breakthroughs in addiction therapy, end of life therapy and most importantly, a clear picture of where your consciousness comes from.

I suffered the borderline disorder for over 23 years, with so much anxiety not until I came across psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment actually saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean.
Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms

I always feel like a kid again when I take acid, everything is so fascinating and I start actually questioning things instead of just letting everything just happen

The first thing everyone looked up after this video: "deep breathing hallucination"

I have trouble expressing or even feeling any emotion sometimes and man what a relief mushrooms brought me. I was crying my eyes out staring at the beauty of the full moon and the night sky on shrooms. I’ve felt a lot better and more balanced ever since that moment

Tripping on mushrooms in the forest was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen/done

Being tripping inside a brain scan thing sounds so cool yet scary at the same time

I did shrooms last weekend. It was really enjoyable.
But, what I thought was weird, was when I closed my eyes, I could see rainbow geometric grid patterns that even had depth to it.
I recall a very similar thing happening but on acid and except with my eyes open and staring at the sky. I saw the similar geometric grid pattern (albeit less colorful) and they kinda would swirl and move.

"A child's brain is similar to an adult's brain on psychedelics" huh... makes sense 😂

I've hallucinated twice in my life: once while high on ketamine, which I didn't know I was allergic to, and was mixed into my anaesthetic concoction once during a surgery, and once while meditating for about three hours straight. The first one was an obvious case, because I hallucinated not only DURING surgery, when you usually can't perceive anything because they knock you out, and then twice AFTER surgery, but I count them all as one incident because they were all caused by the same drug. The other one was, I SPECULATE, a hallucination because I had been deep-breathing for three hours straight, and not only could I see these things very vividly, as though they were really there, but I could also feel what I was seeing. In that second case, and try not to make fun of me, but I saw myself holding onto a dragon's tail, and I could feel the movement of the flight. I mean one of those Eastern dragons that look more like flying snakes, not the bipedal Western ones with upright bodies.

I really appreciate you (ASAP science) for shedding light on the positive potential of psychedelics, and maybe if we all can help support it’s popularity, we could move towards it being legalized and/or it being studied more to support mental health

Imagine having a blissful lil come up on acid in the morning after some good tea only to peak inside an MRI machine later.

Explains a lot.

It’s important to remember as well since many of these hallucinogens are similar in structure to serotonin, that people taking SSRI’s or SNRI’s are at an increased risk for psychosis when on psychedelics. This is why research is so important to understand when these drugs are safe and when they are not. I’ve been clinically depressed my whole life and wanted to try psilocybin because of its promising effects, however thankfully I found out that it would interact negatively with my medication. Stay safe y’all!

I like to believe there's no such thing as a bad trip, just challenging experiences. They can be downright shit-your-pants terrifying, sure. But they're the ones you learn the most from.

I am so excited to see this posted! I am about to go teach Intro Psych in a half-hour, and we just finished talking about drugs in our last class. Perfect timing! You're the best, Greg+Mitch!
