Attributes You DON'T Need At Every Position

There are so many attributes to look at for every position in Football Manager I thought it would be best to point out the least important highlighted attributes for each of them. Happy FMing.

I remember I had a Greek speaking back 3 (2 Greek cbs and a Cypriot), my German goalkeeper because he had played with the same defence for so long eventually learnt basic Greek

Surely technique is important on a winger, it improves his ability to hit a good cross rather than just thumping it in the box and hoping.

When one of your coaches tells your u18 prodigy size does matter and he spirals into alcoholism, ending up in sunday league.
That would be a fine addition to football manager.

This video is super duper helpful to me. I feel like i just started the game, but I checked the numbers and I am already at 400 hours. I still dont really unterstand the skills in their respective contexts. This video really helped with that.

Thanks Z.

Informative content from Zealand is always the best. Even after so many years and iterations of FM, I still wonder if all these attributes are actually relevant in the match engine

I thought all you need is pace, acceleration in all positions rest is just filler.

I think of communication skill as a buff for general defensive positioning etc. Goalkeepers are the leaders of the defense IRL bcs they have the oppurtunity to watch the game from a broader perspective and organise the team defense accordingly.

Thanx for the video Zealand, btw on fm-arena someone did an attribute test so there`s a lot of attributes that doesn't make any difference for the result like aggression bravery flair etc...

I would challenge your dm attribute pick.. One of the best DMs in Prem was Fernandinho and his best attribute was Concentration at 18..Kante at 16. Then the king Claude Makélélé.. 17... I find the best approach.. what do you want the player to do... look at the best ever and what attributes were assigned by the game. Look at the best ball winning FB for example.. Aaron Wan-Bissaka

In my save there was a winger with 11 passing and 10 vision and 10 corner taking finished as high assister with 17, also he had 17 acceleration and 16 pace 😂

In this years game jumping is so important for both defenders and strikers. You get so many goals from jumping its kinda insane.

We need an experiment with players in positions with the not so important attributes locked at 0 with the editor and see how it impacts them

It is more or less proven that in the current engine physical attributes matter the most, regardless of position. If you have a team built of monsters with +15 pace, acc, strength and jumping reach, it doesn't matter much whether they have composure, first touch, technique, decisions or vision.

For Outfield players I always aim for Determination, Work Rate, Teamwork and Stamina as high as possible in every position… with Aggression, Anticipation, Decisions, Concentration, Acceleration & Agility 10 or above. The higher I can get all of them, the better. They seem to be the key attributes that allow players with lower technical ability to still be incredibly good in a Gegenpress system

Scrolling just to like those comments saying Pace is OP. 😅 Also, sincerely, disagreed with some of the mentioned. E.g. Finishing is surprisingly the least important for a AF. Disregarding the fact that Pace alone would get a player to the position, the actual shot depended on the PPT(?) plus all other related attributes. Then, if the success rate of a shot is the SUM of all the relevant attributes, then, none are "least important".

If we wanna keep up with the illusion, then i would at least rather play with the "knowledge" that attributes like Technique and Decisions (and Teamwork) are All-Important (basically all actions use them in this RPG spreadsheet, ha) ... but the fact that SCs dont need Finishing and DCs dont need Tackling is ... wrong, no? 😅

P.S. Having said this, i have MCs and DCs who played until 35yo and still can be OP without Pace. Do need to sit deep. And have Technique and Decision (and Teamwork. 😅

Technique is something I never look at when buying attacking players because it is the easiest to raise. MOST training focus increases technique as well lol.

There’s a different category you’ve not spoken about: the defensive winger, the wide playmaker and the classic wide midfielder (Beckham) role. They do work differently on the flank than other roles.

teamwork is probably more important for a CM in a double pivot, where they likely have the job of playmaking with the attacking players, or being the first man in the defensive unit
sure, its less important in a midfield 3 when the other two guys can pick up

The moat important attributes are decision, acceleration, agility, pace, stamina and strength. These attributes used the most CA to grow than other attributes in most position.

Attributes that don't use CA at all are aggression, determination, flair, natural fitness, eccentricity, punching, rushing out
