Manjaro Linux Newbie - Laptop Install

I really don't have a lot of experience with Linux. So in this video I try to install Manjaro on an old laptop and see if I can get a game running on it. I install Wine and after install Steam as that's probably what most people use. I may try installing Linux Mint on this laptop next to see if I can run a game on that.

I have been subscribed to your channel for a few days now, I wouldn't normally watch these kind of videos, but i actually enjoy watching yours a lot. There's just something about your videos that keep me entertained, your voice isn't boring like some Linux content creators, your whole channel seems like it's actually based on your interests. From Linux to starting a DVD collection, and I love that.
Keep up the good work! 👍

Pretty cool to see you trying out Manjaro. I had not used Manjaro enough to conclude how the distro is like (so looking forward to your review perhaps?). Thou I'm not necessarily sure if Endeavour OS is "better" than Manjaro; it does have more up-to-date stuff. Manjaro usually delay certain updates from it's "parent" distro, Arch Linux (which is what I use btw 😁), in order to maintain stability, so it is slightly more out-of-date. If you want to try a terminal-based distro (I haven't tried Endeavour OS) I suppose you should learn to use the Linux terminal to navigate folders, as well as "pacman" (available on manjaro) as you will need it to install packages I suppose? Pacman is also available on Manjaro so you could try learning on that, as the syntax can get quite cryptic.

Steam downloads its own version of wine to run Windows games so the Wine install was not needed. Also Gnome and especially Pop OS! do not use the desktop, it is still possible to use it but it needs some extensions and whatnot.

Also your channel is great, you do your thing and you do it perfectly. Keep up the good work

IMO EndeavorOS is better but it's not going to be any faster really because both EndeavorOS and Manjaro are based on Arch, on an Arch based system you should look into the AUR, chaoticAUR, and different kernels I use Linux-zen which is faster* also if you use EndeavorOS they have a tool for kernel management named AKM.

I'd recommend that you always separate the '/' and '/home' partitions so you can reinstall without losing your data/configurations And you might want to use BTRFS, there's videos on it.

I apologize for the long comment your videos are great and I look forward to seeing more

*it has some patchs that can be better but not always there's too much to explain in a comment.

Hello, I like your video. Can you tell the song playing in the background, it kinda sounds like Final Fantasy mixed with Dragon Quest

Why go to a meme distro. Use a serious distro like openSUSE TW or Fedora.
