How to reset admin account and network settings on any Synology

How to reset your main admin/root (for SSH access) if you've forgotten your password, don't know it, or account had been disabled?

Simply hold the reset button for 4-5 seconds or until you hear a beep and then remove immediately. Since the network settings have been reset as well, download Synology assistant to locate your diskstation. Use admin and no password to login and create a new password. You're in!

Just set mine up. Really pathetic on Synology's part that you cannot find this information in their documentation.
Nothing but a runaround. If it's there, they don't make it easy to find. Thanks for this...all Synology needed to do
is have a diagram pointing to it on the back, their instructions are all aggravatingly vague.

Will all the apps previously installed be intact after this reset? Or do you have to setup DS Surveillance and DS File etc. Will the Hyperbackup setup stay intact too?

It doesn't work with me. When I try to open DSM from Synology Assistand I got "This site can’t be reached". And that is because the port is not changed to 500, but to 5000. And when I open the DSM with that port I can not login only with admin and blank password. Please, help. : )
