Rent control is one of the reasons rents are so high in LA. Everyone else is paying market rate to subsidize the people in this building. The tenants are still paying 1999 prices so there is plenty of room to jack up the rent now that rent control agreement with the government has expired after many decades. Then LA extended eviction moratoriums to more than 2 years. Sorry Martin but as a journalist you should be telling us the full story. How about selling your own home to the government at a discount to help these people?

this is the best way to guarantee that there will be no investment in that community. what investor would build or renovate properties knowing that they have no property rights or that the govt can just swoop in and take the property.

Eminent domain is used to purchase private property for public use. Public use means public schools, libraries. It should be a place that every one has access to. These tenant wants to use tax payers money to buy this property so that the existing tenant and Only the existing tenant, not the public can live in these units at a much lower rent. No, I don't support it. I paid taxes, it is my money too. I got no benefit out of it

The landlord owns the building. He will triumph in the end against these lazy tenants.

Landlords have a right to earn the market rate. Government taking of private property is not the answer.

Why don’t they move ? Where do they see themselves in 10
Years ? These renters are too short sighted and no matter what they’ll be homeless in 10
Years or live in Bakersfield. When they’re kids get bigger they’ll get kicked out regardless

Don't use words to confuse people. The owner is not fighting the city from their efforts to "PURCHASE" his property.

The owner is fighting the city from making illegal efforts to "TAKE" HIS PROERTY.

The owner has 5th ammendment rights.

The building is not even under L.A housings control.

Stop asking landlords to sacrifice, and the government needs to simply cover the rent increases.

Put them to work so they can buy there own place so they can know how much are the cost of repairs and property taxes .

the landlord did not knock on ''your'' door it's his or her's door as you don't own the property and if your lease is UP and you knew your lease was coming to a end. you should have been ready for that as everyone knows the rent is skyrocketing all over the country and ill bet if you owned the building you would be thinking a bit different
