Russia is developing a space-based nuclear weapon, sources say

House Intelligence Committee chair Mike Turner summoned his fellow members of Congress to review what he called a “serious national security threat.” Three sources familiar with the matter say Russia is developing a space-based nuclear weapon designed to target U.S. satellites. NBC’s Ryan Nobles reports for TODAY.

Russia has possessed a co-orbital ASAT weapon for decades now. Developing a direct ascent version would be the next logical step. Also, China has the SC-19 ASAT derieved from the DF-21 ICBM. The US successfully tested the ASM-135 DA ASAT back in the 1980s launched from an F-15. Let's not forget Operation Burnt Front in 2008, when the US modified a Navy SM-3 to shoot down an errant NRO satellite.

ANYONE ELSE HEAR ABOUT "The Rods of Death?!"
In this military science video I watched a few YEARS ago, it talked about these simple rods, like 50 feet long or so, made form metal and they just orbit our planet. They could wipe out a WHOLE STATE if used. They just push a button when they are on right trajectory and they fall to earth. They are just floating in orbit RIGHT NOW. The thing is they would not cause a "nuclear winter" if used.
