I've been an ICU nurse for 22 years and I feel this in my bones. No one can get a damn thing done because of all the red tape. A lot of it is necessary, yes. But its beyond time to acknowledge how much it takes away from actual patient care.

If an administrator locks a doctor’s computer and a patient suffers medically because of that lost access, then that administrator is going to be a huge legal liability on the hospital.

This is in EVERY. SINGLE. INDUSTRY.

There are too many administrators requiring reports, and actual work can't get done.

I'm only a student and I'm only working on my masters in counseling but already the amount of regulation involved is scaring away my classmates. These are good smart people who would make fantastic counselors. They aren't afraid of violent clients, they aren't afraid of facing a myriad of psychological symptoms, they're afraid of filling out the wrong paper work and getting in trouble with the system. On top of that add unpaid internships and over priced college and we'll never have enough mental health workers to help everyone.

I had a friend who was told by her Dr to go to the ER & take said potassium....
She didn't.
She has been gone 14 yrs now. She was about 32

So teachers are leaving because of bureaucratic BS. Nurses are leaving because of bureaucratic BS. Doctors are getting slapped with bureaucratic BS and will probably be leaving, too. Maybe the answer is less bureaucratic BS. There's a line between making sure that proper care is given equally and...whatever the fuck is happening now.

Doc - Stuff here is on fire! Administrator - You need to complete your modules!

Yeah, I fear my oncology surgeon is burning out. At my 2-year appointment (cancer-free!), I was rescheduled twice and had to wait 3 hours for my appointment. I tried to make a joke about getting home in the evening traffic, but he didn't seem to realize I was joking. All docs and patients have to live with this horrible corporate-medicine environment.

This scene is true even of non-medical corporate America. The modules hit close to home.

Ive been an ER nurse for 19 yrs and this is so acurate it makes me want to cry! At least five times a shift I mentally quit and once a week I verbally quit.

That patient better be 12 years old 😂

Meanwhile, the nurses already spent twenty minutes trying to de escalate that patient, and another 30 minutes assisting him with the complaint process, plus another 25 minutes filling out all the paperwork for the refused medication, and the request for new medication, and now they can finally get to their job of monitoring everyone's condition, changing everyone's poopy pants and making sure no one dies from medication errors.

When the insurance company won't approve the medication you prescribed and the patient complains about your practice instead of the greedy insurance company

The way around this is to do all the beaurocracy with ultimate care and the priority they demand. It needs to be organised and most people in the organisation need to be on board with it to start on a particular day. The whole system will fall flat on its arse in a day. Back in the 70s British Rail had all that sort of rubbish, workers stressed to the eyeballs. So that's what they did - every form complete, every check and balance, every order from above fulfilled diligently. The trains pretty much stopped within a day or two.

Never more money for the people on the floor, but theres always more budget for more administrative personnel to keep creating new mandatory forms and trainings!

My job even does this and when they lose people who have been there for years they decide the solution to quit losing people is “obviously we need more rules”
