How To Install A Reversing Camera

In this video I'm showing how to install a reversing camera in any vehicle, though this example is in a Nissan NV200 van with an Android car stereo. This is a beginner's guide to installing a reversing camera, and will show how to use a parking camera, attach the red wire to a parking light bulb, where to hide cables in a car and how to fix a rear camera to a car.

Thanks to Carpuride for providing the reversing camera to make this video!

The 3.5mm Carpuride rear camera for W701 Plus and W901 Plus connects to an aftermarket digital dashboard, such as the Carpuride W901 Plus, which is one of the best aftermarket car touch screens.

The Carpuride rear camera shoots 720 HD footage, has a wideangle fisheye lens with a 170 degree filming angle and is waterproof and water resistant to an IP68 rating.

Installing a back-up camera is a fantastic way to get better visibility behind your vehicle. As I share how to install a rear dash cam, there are other options to consider, such as a 4k ultra HD rear view mirror camera, a 1080 Full HD rear dash cam or a quality wireless reversing camera which can use solar and use a license plate reversing camera and requires no wiring.

Connecting a reverse camera to a portable head unit, such as ones from the Carpuride range, avoids both reverse camera head unit wiring and makes it the easiest reversing camera which activates when using the reverse gear, as it has only one wire to attach. I used T-Tap connectors to join the wires together and in the video I show how to use T-Tap connectors. After the installation you will have an Android Auto parking camera.

This is a Nissan backup camera installation, specifically for the Nissan NV200, but it is also a DIY rearview camera install for all makes and models of cars and vans.

Fitting a reversing camera doesn't have to be a difficult task and a DIY parking camera is a really fun automotive project you can do yourself.

That said, if you're not sure how to wire a reversing camera, then ask a qualified mechanic to do a reversing camera installation UK.

DISCLAIMER: In this video, I am in no way stating that this is the proper way to undertake the conversion of a van, however after research and experience using the van, I believe this to be the way that is best suited to my van and the way I intend to use it.

If you have a trailer plug, thats the best source for your reverse positive and ground, as you can tape that entire loom with some conduit and its neat and tidy.

Your next project should be putting the steering wheel on the left side

At 4:22, did you make the hole to contact the wire, or was it already like that? I don't want to make any mistakes while doing this install. Thanks!

Thanks for the awesome guide! FYI - no need to strip the 12V wire when using a T-tap connector, the connector is designed to penetrate the insulation leaving as little exposed copper wire as possible. Cheers ;D

Hi, great videos btw.. surely they could have added the "reverse parking lines function" to the reverse camera on the w903 software as oppose to wiring into the car reverse light cable etc
All the hassle to wire it up, . it would just be just a click on the screen when in reverse easy enough and saves dismantling your boot as the camera cable could be routed a lot easier.

Hi i have a old minivan 2002 pontiac montana. I cant get my new rimoody mp5 to work with reverse camera. I did use a scosche wireing kit. At first nothing worked until i ran my own 12v ignition wire to fuse box. Also steering wheel controlls do not work. After dealing with these issues im thinking the old van is not putting out a signal for backup wire im gonna get a circut tester so i can figure this out.

Excellent video, I just finished my install, fishing wires through holes and tight spaces is a pain, but the installation feels so much cleaner doing so🍻

Ah, so I've either done something wrong or the camera is stuffed 😅 I was sure it was the auxiliary feed, I was thinking "how does this send video to the dashcam?" But after watching this, it is possible. Thank you! I'll have another go tomorrow 😊

Thank you for the tutorial, I have a question... could you have connected the red wire to the red wire on the existing camera?

@4:43 10-11volts is actually normal, this was what I got with mine and I had a new battery on, so nothing wrong with your battery nor do you need to change it either. Because you haven't started the engine, which means your alternator isn't running, so if it does, the voltage would be 12-14 volts as the alternator would be driving all your lights, your android head unit and of course, your reverse camera as well plus recharging your battery all at the same time and it needs a slightly higher voltage to do all that

I got the backup camera connected to the positive on my back up light. Tried it, it works. The problem is it stays on even when it's not in reverse. I don't know what the problem is. Can you help?

Thanks for this. Just been having a play with mine.

For first check I just plugged everything together inside the car, ignoring the black and red wires but nothing happened. Is that right do you think? Was thinking that I needed to get independent power to the camera so for next test I'll just run power and earth via the red and black and see if that works.

My other question is what did you do with the black wire alongside the red? I assumed that it would be an earth?

any chance you know what gauge the camera's red wire is? the insulation on mine doesn't have anything printed. Thanks!

Hey. I set my Cam to AHD (orange wire cut). I guess that wont work on a Lamtto portable head unit?

Can I put my rear camera on the inside of the back window of my Chevy aveo instead of on the license plate?
