MPs are asking doctors to ban the 'fat shaming' term BMI amid fears it can harm patients' self image.

The measure, calculated from weight and height, is used to categorise people as underweight, healthy weight, overweight or obese.

BMI is also used by the NHS to determine eligibility for weight loss or gain programmes.

Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum: "They don't like the message so want to shoot the messenger".

No fat person has ever lost weight by being told what a brave little soldier they are.

I'm overweight, have struggled with it for a long time what with controlling my diabetes I've had since a a child. I've had BMIs often at doctors checkups, and in the past have had doctors outright tell he hard truths.

Those hard truths have helped me, they had me change my diet, cut out a lot of crap from my system. I still struggle with it but those hard truths have been a blessing.

Your average member of parliament is hardly a role model for a healthy lifestyle. I bet there were zero claims for lettuce on MP's expenses.

Body fat percentage is a better measure.

25kg is 4 stone 50kg equivalent to 8 stone put that in a ruck sack and try and move with it blood pressure would increase as well as heart rate and breathing. On that note lay down place 12.5 kg on your chest and see what effect this has on your breathing. The more mass you are carrying the shallower the breathing and the circulation to the extremities fails and neuropathy will happen. All unnecessary. Type 2 Diabetes etc.

Where I live fat, young women are the norm. Very rare to see a young woman who is not morbidly obese. Some young men too but no where near as many. It's the reverse of when I was young, when obesity was very rare.

That's right, just let people be obese, while you're at it, ban the attacks on cigarettes, drunk and drugs, since this is shaming addicts.

BMI is used for population studies. Ditch it and use waist measurements against heigh and hip circumferences.

My doctor often would smirk at me and tell me he thought I was obese. Then when he actually weighed me, I was an average weight for my height. No apology came from him, just another smirk. There are doctors who are bullies, and the way I see it, if nobody is asking you for anything, it’s their business what they do with their lives. They know the risks. Too many people with too many opinions. Those who do have extra weight, you don’t know the reason behind it. My cousin was put on steroids and gained some weight, its nobodies business.

Having a heart attack. stroke, liver disease or limbs amputated due to diabetes will hurt them a damn sight more. Is here no end to this woke insanity?

Show the overweight an x ray of their bodies this will show a small skeleton surrounded in brown adipose tissue.

Last year my asthma nurse told me I should eat more broccoli after she weighed me. I'm SEVENTY pounds lighter and thanked her for giving me a push when I had my latest review.
Don't eat carbs.
Do yoga.
Adress your shortcomings.
