Review of Pop!_OS 22.04

Today I am looking at Pop!_OS 22.04 from System 76, a distro that System 76 uses to showcase their hardware, but they also make it available for use on other Intel/AMD platforms. System 76 has been producing Linux Distributions since October 2017. Pop!_OS follows the same general release schedule as Ubuntu.

With pipe wire, now my laptop audio is automatically played in the monitor speakers. Convenient. Waiting for Fedora 36 stable so I can try Wayland using nVidia drivers. Hope that doesn't get cut, like they did in Ubuntu 22.04.

I installed POP OS and reverted back to vanilla Gnome icons, added Fedora Noto sans fonts using Gnome Tweak and it looks much better

My problem with Pop!_Shop is that it exits, or just fails to do anything, without showing an error message. I found advice on running it from a terminal, so the error message gets shown there, but that's really poor, IMO.

The desktop environment needs work too. If I have two Files windows open, I can't see any way to choose one from the dock, like I can with thre Windows task bar.

All the windows just run together in one big blob, in Dark mode, because they don't have visible borders. In the end, I've installed MATE, which gives me access to lots of different themes to download.

Very good video! After final release Cosmic desktop this will be better Ubuntu for desktop/development :-)... without snap.

WoW you just got a new subscriber this has to be THE BEST video about pop os period not to mention version 22.04 i did not realize it was not complete cause others don't mention that i hope you will let us know when the completed version is ready, not too big a hurry but i do want to have the usb stick ready for when win 10 is done with because that is why i started looked at linux because i will NOT be forced to buy a new computer just to go to win 11, i first found zorin then i heard about pop os and just trying to get a good look at it through vids like this YOUR VID HERE was very informative ...Thank You

I had to rebuild the Pop Shop on Source on an Upgrade on my laptop. Good luck finding that one odd library you need to get the thing to work

Great review, thanks. Just installed Pop! on an old (expired) Chromebook and it is working incredibly well out of the box. The Pop Shop seems a little slow, but not a big deal as I am comfortable using apt.

Really, even handhelds have a 1280x800 or 1280x720 resolution.
