Finally replacing Windows 10 with a Linux distro. PopOs was more seamless and compatible with my clone than any other distro out of box.

I hadn't used Linux since the 90s and I decided to install this on my Mac, triple booted with Windows 10 and MacOS. Works like an absolute dream and was surprisingly painless to set up in this configuration. The interface is very similar to Mac so I feel quite at home! Very happy to have this is my new OS.

Great video. I'm a long time Linux guy. Pop_OS is about to become my daily driver. I agree with you about the environment from a dev and productivity perspective, and I've helped quite a few people make the transition. This should make it all the more easy to do.

I booted Pop OS from a USB last night on my Surface Pro 4...I am absolutely floored. It's so slow on Windows, fan is always on, it's always hot. I've spent a lot of time optimizing and removing services; it's still crap.

Unbelievably fast on Pop. I just tried to slow it down: opened everything I could find, multiple instances, tons of tabs, everything. Still lightning fast. Processor usage would spike for a few seconds, but stabilized below 20% almost immediately. Ram usage was WAY, WAY less. I honestly can't believe it. This was all from a USB too! Should be even faster once installed! I am floored. The settings and interface is so nice too...I don't know how Windows went so wrong...

Nice video especially that you’ve been using it in the real world for things like video editing. So many new distro videos are just a quick spin on a VM. Stability matters especially for less experienced Linux users.

Four 35 GB partitions on a Lenovo desktop: Ubuntu 20.04, latest Mint, latest Peppermint, latest PARROT! Told Pop_OS 20.04 to kick PARROT out and install there. "Failed: hardware error." Twice. So I cleaned the Parrot out with GPartEd ... and tried again: success. BUT! Grub does not recognize the other partner Linux partitions and does not include them on its version of the Grub menu. So I fixed that with Disk-Repair. Pop_OS needs significant work right there in the install phase.

I believe the firmware is handled through gnome as part of the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) fwupd.org

After installing Pop!_OS 19.10 my Thinkpad T480 and installing all the firmware updates my battery life nearly doubled. Features like this are making Linux so easy to use nowadays.

Definitely will try this ... But I am primarily a business user. Though I enjoyed using ubuntu a lot .. however I started using windows 10 after its release only because now I could logon directly from my email address (microsoft ID) to Windows 10 as well as office and all my information now is stored through one drive onto cloud. so formatting etc becomes less scary.

I would be really interested to see a demo on the custom install (partitions) and specifically when LUKS is involved. There is one video from a different channel - very informative but it doesn't discuss pros and cons when multiple partitions are created and the desire is to encrypt one. On the ubuntu installer - it is possible to dedicate empty space for encryption, generate encrypted drive then install. On pop os it appears to be all or nothing. When the default installer is selected there is a restore partition (on pop os) - it would be quite nice to learn about the benefits of it too.

Fedora 32 has the firmware update option too. My Linux world began in 2017;)
