Stollen, hier Weihnachtsstollen ist kein Brot sondern Kuchen. Wird meistens Nachmittags zum Kaffee genossen und das in ganz Deutschland. In Norddeutschland dann allerdings zum Tee.

As a German i feel sorry for you Americans not having the variety of very good and healthy bread we have in Germany.
You are really missing out !
I went a few times to the United States.
After a few weeks of vacation i was happy being back in Germany just for the food.

I come from Holland and I live in Germany. German bread is one good reason to stay here and never go back.

German bread all the way. Our familiy lived in an old apartment building in Wurzburg in the 80s where the bottom floor was a bakery - always had the best bread and sweets! Can't beat a simple and fresh Brotchen.

This is such a great video. Thanks so much. I've been visiting in Germany for almost 50 years, these days no work just visiting friends there The traditional German breakfast with all sorts of brotchen and breads remains one of my favourite meals of all time. For me, I can't get enough of German bread. You're so lucky to have such great bakeries there.

Did my bakery internship in Holland, Germany and France.

Fresh bread, straight out of the oven is something you can wake anyone up for in the middle of the night. Nothing, I repeat. *Nothing* is more delicious then warm, fresh bread and I will die on that hill.

That squashed cinnamon croissant looks lovely. Germans are very fortunate to have bakeries with fresh bread - so many choices!

When we grew up in the German part of Queens we had a German bakery and butcher next door to each other. My favorite bread was the roggenbrot. We got it fresh from the oven and would go home and put butter on it. My favorite treat.

Hallo Deana und Phil, I was born and raised in the NYC suburbs. In Northern NJ we had lots of German and Austrian Americans when I was growing up (it gave me a chance to practice mein Deutsch). Along with that there were lots of imported breads. There was even a Kleine Konditorei in NYC on East 86th street where they had austrian pastries and a restaurant with great sandwiches and food. So when I learned how to bake bread my goal was German Loaves....the darker the better. Froeliche Weihnacht Jacques Mexico

A friend of a friend gave me a ride one day when I was without a car. He asked if I was in a hurry. No, I wasn't. Oh, good, he said. I want to make a slight detour to a good bakery. I'm German, he said, and I can't eat Canadian bread. I understood. I'm Canadian, and I haven't eaten our standard supermarket bread for 30 years now. When I visited Germany I was in heaven with so much good bread available everywhere. It's easier to find good bread in Canada than it used to be, but not as easy as it should be.

When i was a child, my grandfather bought every weekend a bread in wagonwheel size and it was so crusty on the outside that you can smash a brickwall with it, but so tasty with a piece of butter. Greetings from Hamburg, just had a Franzbrötchen.

After living in Germany for over 6 years I really miss this time of the year. Absolutely love the bread and before I left my landlady gave me several recipes for different foods my son really liked.

Fun fact a: Pumpernickel is the only bread that is not "BAKED", it is "cooked" in the oven at 80 degrees for 24 hours and the, actually a nickname, for pumpernickel comes from "lazy bakers" who did not let the bread cook the full time in order to make and sell new bread more quickly and the "unfinished bread" leads to flatulence and stomach pain, because it is not made of rye flour but of rye meal, the rest that the miller actually throws away or gives to pigs to feed

You can make a dessert from Pumpernickel: Westfälische Quarkspeise.

You need these ingredients:
- Quark
- Sugar
- cherrie preserve
- pumpernickel

First you put sugar and quark together and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Then crumble the slices and put a layer of the crumbs in a glass. Then add some cherries, a layer of quark, pumpernickel crumbs and so on. You can top it with some chocolate flakes if you want.

it’s soooo good 🥰

I'm Germany and I have lived abroad for many years and the only thing I always missed was the bread! Don't forget, each and every backery has its own bread!
