Learn More About The Amex Cards in this video:

In this video, I'll go over 4 Negative Reasons for why you need to AVOID all American Express Credit Cards. As an example, one reason that you need to Avoid American Express Credit Cards is because of hard to use Credits. American Express has continued to add statement credits on a lot of their Cards in order theoretically make up for annual fee increases.

However, a lot of those Credits are split up into different semiannual, quarterly or monthly credits which make them more difficult to maximize. I'll go over the specific Credits on the Hilton Surpass, Hilton Aspire, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, American Express Gold & American Express Platinum.

What are your thoughts on Amex Cards? ⬇
When you are done watching this video, go watch my video breaking-down all the Changes on the Hilton Aspire & Hilton Surpass:

I agree with you Matt! A lot of the changes have been leaning more towards coupon-booking and while I don't have any problems with coupons, I find it hard to justify paying a higher annual fee for the privilege of having multiple monthly credits! It's the way Amex is going so I've been looking at other options more recently. Great point and great video!

Good video Matt .. The increased annual fees is getting annoying. I was going to keep the Business Gold but now I'm rethinking that. $550 wont make me cancel the Aspire. I have no issue with the Platinum's credits. The limited Sky Club Visit is trash but I have 3 Platinum cards and will most like get the Delta Reserve next year.

I have no idea what Pop Up Jail is hahahaha. Ive had 16 Amex and never got the dreaded pop-up. Most likely because I prioritize Amex with my spending. Thanks for the video

Got the Gold last week before annual fee goes up and to take advantage of that 90k offer.

It’s no secret that I’m not happy about Amex’s changes, but I hope it’s just a temporary thing. I’ll still be adding Amex cards as they make sense, but I’m more bullish on their cobranded cards these days than their staple products. Great video all around Matt! 👊🏼

Spot on, couldn't be more accurate. I am trying to switch to different airlines and lounges as these changes are coming although my airport is a Delta hub(DTW), because at some point the math is not adding up like spending $8k to get 150 k points and the credits feel like dictatorship to be honest.

I wish they would just give the dining credits all in one, it would make it so much easier to get positive value. I do think it takes a specific case to use each of these cards. Great video!

I'm not planning on getting them. I have several credit cards to help me fly free, free nights at a couple of hotels and cash back. I only pay for one annual fee $99. The rest are no annual fees. You do a great job on YouTube ❤

Totally agreed! And from your first point, the changes Amex put out there and is continuing to put out there regarding welcome offers rules, disallowing if you have had relative cards SUCKS.

I’m just waiting for it to hit the Hilton cards now 😬😬😬.

And oh yeah, I remember that annual fee increase on the platinum, it hurt rmy younger self a ton 🤣.

Very fair and honest breakdowns, great videos Matt man!

Weirdly, the changes make the Amex Green more desirable. It has the least offensive credits of the bunch because you use them at your discretion.

I love the objective views on these cards, Matt! I can't be too upset the bank for doing what they have to do, but I'm very sad I found out about the amazing world of credit cards AFTER I was 5/24, and I've been in pop-up jail on both the personal and business side since September, completely skewing what would have been my perfect Chase + Amex roadmap! Gardening it is!

Love your content.

I wonder if AmEx will release the number of customers they lose due to their changes.

i think you raise some common frustrations experienced by many consumers.
As for me personally, if i cant comfortably afford the AF, and have to rely on monthly or quaterly credits to offset the AF, then the card isnt for me. In my case im fine with the AmEx Gold. I dont even use the uber credit. However, i dont travel enough for the platinum and wouldnt use many of its credits, so the Green card is a much better fit for me.

Yeah I am debating canceling my gold card but I have a ton of unused points. The problem is I don't want my credit to take a ding but the green card is still pretty expensive.

I don't think I would mind getting less in total credits if it came all at once rather than monthly or quarterly increments.

I'd much rather be able to use $75 in Uber cash whenever I want rather than the $10/month credit. Yes, I get less money back, but I think yearly credits are more conducive to most people's spending habits

I'd be interested to see if Amex did something like that. $100 in yearly credits, or $20 in monthly credits. I wonder what would get them the most customers and which would would be more profitable in the end.

American Express has always valued relationships and all of these moves make sense. My guess is most people are nowhere near as valuable to American Express as they’d like to believe.

All those monthly and quarterly credits sure doesn’t feel like a luxury credit card to me!

AMEX is making adjustments to become more profitable, so that consumers cannot abuse their points and benefits. This move seems extremely logical to me, that a company is seeking to improve profitability.

We have to get the AMEX Gold before Platinum, to ensure eligibility of both welcome bonuses. I view this as a very simple sequence to learn and follow.

I also find it very interesting this entire video is “why you recommend NOT getting AMEX cards, ” yet you list every single one of your personal referral links for each AMEX card.

I would receive your video and views with more authenticity, if you removed each of those referral links, showing your even higher belief in the recommendations against all AMEX cards.

The glass is always both half full and half empty, and while your video is very well done and clearly thorough, I receive this video as far too “half empty” of a perspective.

I love AMEX.
