The TRUTH About Makeup & Mature Skin!!

In today's video I'm sharing a few possibly harsh truth's about makeup and mature skin.
I started working in the beauty industry in 1996, and in 2016 I began posting videos on Youtube to share my knowledge with other women who may be struggling with changes that come with getting older. In 2016 I was 43, today I am 51, and I find myself struggling right along with many of you.
This is somewhat of a vulnerable video for me, but it's honest. I am certain they're a lot of us that don't want to face the fact that there might be some limitations to what we can and can't do or achieve with just makeup
I hope everyone takes this video in the spiriti in which it was intended. As always, I truly appreciare. like, comment and /or share if you enjoyed it! Please subscribe to my channel if you aren't already!

Please do an eye tutorial for us to give ideas for using less eyeshadow and still have a polished look.

Risa, thank you for this video. I have to be honest, so here I go. I'm 70 years old and will turn 71 next month. I stopped watching your videos because of the amount of makeup you were using. I understand that beauty influencers are also on YouTube to make money and I'm fine with that. I take great care of my skin and I love makeup. I have begun using less makeup because of how my face, eyes and lips are changing as I age. But! I'm wearing much less and it looks great! I truly appreciate this video and the changes you are making. I love your honesty and I'm looking forward to your next video.🥰

Boy, I am 72 and I needed to hear this!!! I love makeup and I have always worn a lot of it. Especially, eye makeup. I look ridiculous after a few hours when everything runs & settles into my lines!!! Still, I continue to do the same thing. I’ve always been good at application and I need to face facts - my canvas is just not the same!! 😂😂😂 Thank you for this intervention!! 😊

51 is still very, very young as far as makeup application goes. I try to watch makeup tutorials from 60 to 70 year olds for realistic advice, but this video has really helpful tips. Many thanks!

Accelerated aging happens after menopause
Aging is not as noticeable until your hormones change
I looked young up until 54 because that’s when menopause started
It’s not just a number it’s when the hormones shut off

You always look great, Risa, glam or no glam, but I 100 percent take on your advice. It takes a certain amount of bravery to keep it real - with oneself and with others - and let's face it, maturing isn't for wusses. Thank you for your never ceasing integrity in these matters. Love you!

I am 70 years old. I have discovered that my eyes look so pretty with just mascara and a light neutral shadow on my lids. I am blessed with large blue eyes. I get a lot of random unexpected compliments on my eyes. Even at my age I have very few fine lines. I totally agree with your point of view on make up. Thank you for channel. Never miss

I lived almost an entire decade wearing no makeup, 40-50. I'm currently 57 and literally had to re-learn a lot! I definitely invest in skin care. My make up routine is simple for everyday, I'm just looking for enhancement. Wet-N-Wild tinted Hydrator to neutralize, a taupey eyeshadow to recede the prominent eye bone, brow pencil for shape and definition, blush, Clinique Pink or Black honey on the lips and a tubing mascara. It's a 5 minute routine that boosts my confidence level but never looks like I'm trying too hard or just gave up.

Several years ago I quit lining my lower lids or waterline (except for an off white color on the waterline) and applying mascara to the lower lashes. This helps my 58 year old eyes look more lifted.

❤good job on hard truth, especially for those of us over 70 and who absolutely adore all makeup. Sadly you’re correct. ❤

I am 67 and will never stop wearing makeup or eye shadow, but I do find that I use a lighter touch and less than I used to.

Sophia Loren said in an interview a long time ago that as we age we have to do a lot more to look like we’ve done less. I’ve recently come to realize there is no foundation for 60+ skin—skin tint, concealer on dark spots works best. If you let go of YouTuber eye makeup (trying to create a crease, winged liner, etc.) and apply shadow, even shimmers, more simply it can look good.

At age 69, I am focused on clear skin & doing what I need to do to get it & maintain it. I really value clear skin. RE: makeup, at a minimum, I need eyebrow pencil, mascara, undereye concealer, tinted facial moisturizer, blush, bronzer & lipstick. I appreciate your honesty. Yes, things really change as we get older & aging is not just about wrinkles.

Thank you. I am nearly 64 and a full time pastor. I rarely comment but I love your channel and watch regularly and learn so much. I still like to be full glam every day as a professional and your wisdom helps me in so many ways. Blessings

Omg. So true. Wait till 60. Crazy. Why so many of us stopped wearing makeup.
Thank you for addressing this!!

Hi Risa I think rather than age it’s menopause that causes the extreme changes and that age varies woman to woman. I’m 52 but had my last period at 46 so I am fully menopausal. The texture of my eyelids has changed and that has meant less looks better. I’m a rock chick and still roaring around on a motorbike 😂 (even though I need a back brace nowadays 😢), so I was the queen of a smoky eye for many years. I started lightening that smoky eye in my late thirties but still had some drama to it, but I let it go completely in my forties as it just didn’t make me feel good anymore. I still like a little drama for a night out😂, but I wear much more natural makeup nowadays. During perimenopause I developed rosacea to go with the life long eczema so I actually needed more coverage than I had used before (I always used tinted moisturiser etc as I had clear skin). I still don’t use heavy coverage and use a green primer and/or corrector plus concealer where needed to keep the overall complexion lighter coverage. I’m super dry so I never liked high coverage makeup anyway. I use a lip liner and have for a few years, but didn’t need it when I was younger. I still like black mascara and mascara on the bottom lash (it suits my eye shape) even though I am pale and blonde although I also like navy blue mascara btw (brown is too red on me and makes my eyes look red). I firmly believe in changing up our makeup to look the best we can at every age and spend the most time perfecting my base as it is the canvas every colour goes on top of. Best wishes x

Well said! I agree, you should wear whatever makeup you want to wear! That said I am going thru the mourning process of no longer wearing the makeup I love. The simple fact is I need to wear less makeup and more importantly softer makeup.

I loved this! At 75 I have already discovered that I look so much better with a light, more natural makeup application. I have thoroughly enjoyed my gray hair, and have discovered I now need softer and pinker tones. And I also know that health and happiness gives a woman a glow that can’t come from cosmetics. ❤️ Love ya, Risa!

Actually, I could wear any makeup until age 60...now at 65, makeup is so tricky...thankfully, I have found beautiful products

I was told I had mature skin at 36. Now, I’m 66 and I know, now, that was BS. I have mature skin know. I love makeup. I love eyeshadow, and still use whatever I like including shimmers and foiled. It takes me 10 minutes. I love your content, Risa.
