Barefoot fans hate these because they're not barefoot enough, supper padded fans hate them because they're too minimalist. Personally I love them. Originally I used them mostly for training runs, say 10K. For races (ironman) I use Hoka Rocket, which have a bit tiny bit more support. My trail glove 5 I started just wearing as a general leisure shoe, oh and I also wear them while sailing. They really are a superb generalist action shoe.

I tried these in store and couldn't believe the excessive arch support. It was so uncomfortable and not what I expected in a minimalist shoe. I quickly placed it back on the shelf!

Hiked the long trail (272 miles) in 13 days with this shoe. It had enough support between my foot and the ground to allow me to average 20ish miles a day while protecting my feet but still giving me good connection to the ground. Am thankful I went with this shoe for the job!

I've just picked up mine this week based on your review, it had all the information I needed to know. So far I took them for one run and I am already excited to wear them! Thank you so much for providing quality content!

Trail Glove 2 was the last trail glove without an arch. TR 5 had a very high arch these look the same. I keep trying to find TR 2 in used sites.

I agree! Amazing shoes, stripped down, minimal-ish, very secure fit without the “squish”, heel, or point, roomy toe section….super nice, but I wish there was a little less arch support. Not 100% barefoot, but a really nice in between shoe. A bit less “aggressive” arch (even though it feels nice) would have been perfect for me. Still…I think these are great, and will get a ton of use.

Completely agree that the biggest problem with these is the aggressive arch support. I've been running in them for about a month, and I'm getting used to them, but i wish that high arch support wasn't there.

Really wish Merrell would listen to their customers. The trail glove 4 was PERFECT. Had I known that they were going to jack this up with version 5 and now 6, I would have bought 10 pairs of version 4.

My favorite shoe is my Trail Glove 4s. They are getting pretty worn and I don't use them all the time. But I haven't found anything else I like as much. I wear them for trail running and for track running. The arch area looks very similar to the 6 but it doesn't bother me and my arches are pretty minimal. I wear them in an 11, which is my usual size. I live in Japan and it's hard to find a pair of sevens in my size but I'd love to get a pair.

Although this is not a barefoot shoe. This is a great transitional shoe. Like myself going from 8-10mm heel drop. Using this zero drop shoe with that little bit of midsole and arch support makes it easier to get used to "barefoot". I brought the vapor glove 4 and it's to much to soon I think. I'm not used to all that lump and bump feeling just yet. That being said I am using the glove trail 5, not this 6th version. I would avoid 6, get a 5 as this arch support looks much more prominent and aggressive than the trail 5.

Thank you for coming up and saying more or less these are NOT barefoot shoes as they completely are NOT. They do look awesome, but they also have a foam midsole s that zonks them from being “barefoot”. Great video. The new Vapor Glove looks like a great update as well.

Great shoes. Like the arch support and the overall feel.

I love aggressive arch support...I have a relatively high arch and need/want that secure support.

yeah weird arch 'support'. you get used to it though. i use this in rotation with proper barefoot style and midsole style

yeah I tried before the merrell trail glove the first generation since im a runner, but its a little uncomfortable shoes, they think that it will make your feet feel like natural but its not, its not natural to have support in your arch

I got mine from sports basement, I didn’t read any reviews first, but I’d have to say despite the shit reviews this shoe has it has been a bigg help to me, I’ve tried a few dozen brands and styles and they’ve always ended up causing me pain at some point. But so far this has been incredibly easy to wear as a casual everyday shoe. Very happy with them. Wear 9.5 same as most brands

How about water crossings. Do they drain water and dry out well? How's the grip on slick rock?

Great, review! How does the arch support compare with the Trail Glove 5? The Trail Glove 4 was my favourite shoe with no arch support. I got used to the arch support in the Trail glove 5, but now I am wondering about the Trail Glove 6, and whether it is even more than the 5. Thanks!
