Knowing where to mix in your new song is the difference between sounding like a pro or sounding like a complete amateur. This may seem obvious to some, but from what I can see, this is one of the biggest issues DJs face when they are first starting out.

The view to like ratio for this video is unacceptable. Such a well done video full of useful information.
If you watched this video and learned something without liking its almost like a robbery took place here😂

I love that you’re real - you don’t pretend to remember every phrase of every track in your collection but you acknowledge “danger” and “hidden surprises”. To be honest that’s a big part of the adrenaline rush and fun of DJing!

I experienced that at a festival at mainstage this year… i was in the crowd dancing to a dj’s music but he was mixing so fast all the time that it was not really that pleasant to dance to. It didn’t affected my mood but i was aware of it !

The fact you mixed in to a song that you weren't familiar with made this video worth it. Too many perfect videos out there that don't translate to a beginner or intermediate dj's, bravo!

Hi. Im a dj for just over 20 years and i wanted to spice up mixing. Basically reboot and refresh my transitions. I have learnt so much from your videos. Its informing and your passion for djing and teaching is really a cut above the rest. The fact that you have so much knowledge and your down to earth personality really compliments your videos. Well done. 👌👌👌👌

Mate you give excellent advice. You're to-the-point and constantly reference scenarios which recall your audience's own experiences relative to a skill, transition or DJing objective. You deserve a much larger YouTube audience.

Excellent teaching skills. I come to understand also the correct way of thinking as a dj with your tutorials.

Great video. I have a couple thoughts on mixing in key. 1) I generally mix in key because it limits the choices of tracks I have instead of my entire list or playlist, but within the in key tracks the vibe and the energy are the most important for track selection. You can't blindly pick a track because it is in key. 2) I generally find that I can go one step further in the camelot scale and choose a track that is either 1 or 2 steps away, but verifying the sound before playing it. My theory is that a musical key is made up of 7 notes. The current key of the track and the related major/minor all have the same notes in common. If you take a step up or down those keys have 6 of 7 notes in common and 2 steps up or down have 5 of 7 notes in common, of course, the more steps you take the less likely it will sound good together. I generally find 2 steps up or down often work well.

I agree with Laidback Luke's approach that energy is more important than key, which you are basically saying the same.

I am the many few dubstep and DnB djs who doesn't use hot cues. I do all doubles but i know when and where to drop my tracks. To me its all about learning the tracks themselves and then you dont need the points to help you.

Hey man, as others have said your tutorials are amazing!. What you said about where to mix out of exit song is spot on, but tbh, I thought mixing after drops/choruses was a given haha. What I find to be far more challenging is finding where to mix IN a new song. I find that intros of new songs are very dynamic, and the introduction of vocals makes it challenging. I'm learning that loops are sometimes needed to keep the beat static and avoid these unexpected changes. I think it would be incredibly helpful if you did a tutorial on this.
