This guy is one of the better teachers at crossfader for me. Explains stuff very clearly ...

Came in for the Amelie Lens photo, stayed for the content. The third layered mix was really beautifully done. Gotta love melodic techno.

As someone with 0 knowledge about DJing, this video was easy to follow and enjoyable. Thanks for posting!

This lesson is so well done. A lot of dj videos explain but don’t show, and others show but don’t explain. This one does such a wonderful job of both. Inspires me to run home and start mixing!

Basic techniques like these are really the most important, I think. Once you master them you can get more adventurous. I would add that using the filter in combination with the low EQ can give you depth to swapping the drop, or effectively extend a breakdown without using loops. Just be aware that filters and EQ curves are different on each mixer, and sound different yet again on each sound system so the optimal amount to turn the knob may be different on a club system than on your home system.

i’ve been using these techniques unintentionally since beginning, guess i‘ve been doing it right all along

I like the layering technique because of the creativity you can create in a mix. Also with layering, you are free to use EQ-blending and swapping drops, which makes your transitions more varying rather than track for track for track, etc.

3rd way looks very interesting,

I've been Djing for a while now, not really thought about making it myself but lately, I wanted to understand more about it. This really helped! It's crazy to see how fast you can create something new and fresh for an audience

Great tutorial. I'd stress that the massive requirement for this to work is phrasing. In all three examples the phrases matched perfectly which made both tracks fit. And also being in matching or complementary keys. Good stuff!

1 & 2 are perfect for Techno and I use them a lot. I love a long mix between tracks though for the journey. It’s under appreciated these days.

Yeah, This guy did a great job explaining. I tried technique 2; Swapping Drops, and it worked super well! I used Panic room (Club Mix) - Au/Ra and CamelPhat and mixed it woth In your Eyes - CamelPhat. and It worked SUPER WELL! SO much fun!!!. I didn't work as wel cuz my controller doesn't have EQ controls, but when I upgrade, it'll sound much better. Thank you Crossfader!

Very well explained tut. The most important line is definitely: „Experiment, have fun with it“ 😎

Interesting. I’d love to see your take on the harder styles of techno, like Ben Sims, Fhase 87, Skov Bowden or Uncertain. I have never been a fan of the EQ blend but do use the filter colour effect so I guess it’s similar. Phrasing is where it’s at and it wasn’t until recently that I could put into better words what I was doing as a DJ, it was always this. Harmonic key matching is another technique that should be practiced. I enjoy seeing these videos and after 30 years of playing tracks it still never gets old and always give a fresh insight for new ideas. Let’s have a hard-jack or hard-groove video next time. Techno never gets old for me. ☮️&💟

Like the previous comment - gorgeous pic!

Enjoyed the ‘Layering Technique’ - in and out, back and forth, playing with the best bits of both.
Keep these vids coming, thanks.

Sick video, for the layering bit I would’ve mentioned to pay attention to mixing in key as well as that makes it easier to find what tracks work with eachother. Other than that amazing🙌🔥
