Now for this tutorial we’re gonna need 3 things

1. A Laptop
2. DJ Software which you can download legally or illegaly
3. And songs you know in and out (this is very important)

Now with that said. Let’s begin.
___

Software Over View:

Now for this tutorial w’ere going to use Rekordbox DJ. DJ softwares are quite similar. As long as they have an internal mixing section, then you should be good to go.

Let’s set up ours:

So there 5 steps:

1. Display the Mixer Section
2. Set the Crossfader Curve to Smooth by Dragging the knob all the way to the left side
3. Make Sure that the Crossfader Assign Section is Set to Deck 1 and Deck 2
4. Position the crossfader to the first deck which is on the left side,

5. Activate Sync and Quantize ( I know..controversial. but I don’t give a ***)

-

Song Over View

Here are 2 things to keep in mind when it comes to the songs you’re going to use:

1. Make Sure You Know them,

So that’s knowing how many beats the intro and outro are, and knowing when and where to mix the song,

because if you don’t. It’s gonna sound pretty amateur, **skit***, you don’t want that.

2. Make sure that the first cue point is set to the first beat of the song

And We’re now ready to start mixing.

___

Mixing Overview

So here are the 4 steps to start mixing

1.

Load the first song to the first deck, and play it, this will now be known as your current song

2.

Load the next song in the second deck and, this will now be known as your Next song

3.

Wait for the outro section of the current song, once you reach it, play the next song

4.

Drag the crossfader from the current song to the next song

“and now you’ve just mixed for the first time.”

To mix more, do steps 2 to 4 but this time alternating from deck 2 to 1, and vise versa,

And congratulations, you’re DJ’ing.
___

Conclusion

I’ve included the songs I used in this tutorial, so you can practice with them at home. Good luck!

Now, this video is made for beginners who want to try DJ’ing but simply don’t have the equipment to.

I made this video so that beginners, will at least get familiar with DJ’ing, and to hopefully help them better decided if this is the hobby or career they would want to invest in.

In no way am I saying that Laptops and DJ softwares are better than the real thing. I’m simply encouraging beginners to pick up the hobby with what they currently have.

Not having equipment is not a valid excuse to try DJ’ing.

So to the beginners who are watching, if you want to DJ for real, invest in real DJ equipment, and learn how to beat match manually.

This tutorial is made for you to help you start DJ’ing right now.

Sorry guys, no more excuses.

And yes, starting out as a dj, pick up the software and some songs to practice and ask for your friend's opinions of ur mixes improve. This video has been helpful to those new djs who can't afford a controller :)

Your tutorials are so clean and neatly organized! It has helped me since i started DJ’ing in the first place! What i would love to see tho, is how to transfer between huge BPM-gaps. Like between a rap-song at 85bpm, and a club mix at 128bpm. Thanks man!

This makes mixing a lot easier. I don't have a controller yet, I just use my laptop. This makes it so much easier to mix cause I never noticed that you had to watch for the beats for the intro, chorus, and outro.

I've been doing this for 3 years already. People have different thoughts of a DJ. Most of them think that, DJ's own controllers. Well, not all can afford, even after saving for years, myself, it's kind of a big investment. I've heard comments like "Your equipment sucks" or "Do you even DJ?"
Well, after they heard a mixtape I made, some said "It's good, seemless transitions, good choices of songs" and one of those people asked "How did you do this? Do you have a controller?" I answered "I just use Virtual DJ"

We all start somewhere, and I believe that this experience of mine will help me in practicing and improving the craft of DJing. DJing is more of a mood setting, mixing music and beat matching manually, and and all things such. It's not just about fancy equipments. Now, I still use my laptop for mixing. Although, I consider buying a controller.

Cheers idol! Keep up the good work!

I learn to match your own musical expression with the desires of a given audience. It’s not just matching beats, or scratching over songs. It’s about being observant, empathic, and reactive. It’s not difficult to start. But it is difficult to stand out, and to be exceptional. There is a lot more to becoming a DJ than knowing how to mix one song into another. I salute you Dj Carlo Atendido and i appreciate your skills because you make this video for the beginners and it can help to others.

And most importantly, remember that at its heart, DJing is about creating moments of magic through playing pre-produced music and sometimes remixing it live. All the software and hardware you use to achieve this is are only tools, and you’re no less a DJ whatever your choices.

I got a passion for the music, and I comfortable that Dj software for mixing is as valid as any other way of learning. It's a nice for me, and simple first set-up. I learn some more skills and more ideas for this video.

This is my thoughts for your lesson for this video, i hope i'm the one lucky winner for this giveaways, so that's all @DjcarloAtendido have a nice Day! #No.1BestScratchDjPH #DjCarloAtendidoPH #DjCarloAtendidoGiveaways #TheBestDjintheWorld #FullSupport

I think it is true that yoy can start using a DJ software and a laptop only, but while doing it you don't get the feeling of touching the equipment because you are just going to be pressing keys and clicks. Btw I think that if you don't have enough money to buy a decent DJ equipment like a DDJ-rb, Sb2 or something more expensive, you can start by this but I would recommend to any beginner to save money until they have enough money to buy a 250$+ equipment but not anything cheaper than that because the cheap equipment feels more like a toy than a professional equipment. Very useful video for beginners Carlo, good luck.😉
