For some high school students, prom is an important event, something they look forward to throughout their time in high school. But what happens when you get banned from the event just weeks before it is to take place? This is what happened to James Tate, a student who got banned for asking out his prom date...granted, in a creative way. In today's story, I tell the story of how James' romantic gesture got him in trouble with the schools headmaster...and how the internet, the media, and politicians bailed him out.

I dont think at any point the administrator stepped back and thought, "im punishing this high schooler for taping easily removable cardboard letters on a wall." I think this is a pretty good example of being a cog lost in the machine and ironically not critically thinking about how mundane the act really was, the intent of the student in the first place, or the implications of severely punishing said student for something completely harmless.

If he "vandalised" it by using spray paint or something permanent then yeah he should've been banned. But he used removable letters which wouldn't damage the property at all so the school overeacted lots lol
