The famed clipper ship Cutty Sark once sailed under Lloyds’ protection, in the 20th century a whiskey company of the same name used Lloyd’s to protect another venture, wholly different from the perils of the sea. Here are some of the more unusual, even bizarre, items insured by the venerable Lloyd’s of London, and some examples of the company honoring the claims of the insured.

One thing Lloyd's famously *refused* to insure was 2001: A Space Odyssey against the potential loss of income against the possibility of contact with aliens actually being established before the movie's theatrical run back in 1968. Apparently someone thought the possibility of aliens contacting us for real in that short time frame was too great.

Fun Fact, speaking of Insurance and Natural Disasters:
Hawaiian Insurance Companies won't insure houses against lava flows.
To get around this, Hawaiian Homeowners, with property near Volcanoes, plant groves of trees near their houses, between them and the Volcano, so the trees catch fire, burning the house down, first, to be covered by Fire Insurance.

"From 1640 to the early 19th century, an estimated 3.2 million enslaved African people were transported by Britain’s vast shipping industry – and Lloyd’s was the global centre for insuring that industry." Loyds

FUN FACT: #10- Keith Richards' hands were the SECOND thing in their history to be insured. Lol (not really. He just looks old enough to have been there at the founding of the Co. And has since I saw the stones in the 80s)

Does Lloyds still ring a bell when a ship they’ve insured has gone down in whatever waters it was sailing on?

Simon, that sound you heard was the collective outrage of the entire state of New Jersey for your insults of Bruce’s vocal stylings. And on Christmas no less… lump of coal for you…😂

And then, insurance became mandatory on a lot of things where it frankly is not really necessary, if people just engaged their brains... :P

Sorry, but "We are indebted to you" because an insurer did it's job? No. Rip it apart and give the assets to the insured, throw the heads in jail.

I am big Bruce Springsteen fan but I will admit that there are better male rock singers: Bob Seger and the late Roy Orbison to name but two. Elvis and Freddie Mercury also come to mind.
