Watching from OKC. I work with an engineer that moved here a few years ago from San Diego. We talk about food at least 3 times per week. It blows his mind whenever I bring up STCG food, because he remembers watching you on the local channels, and also your grocery store appearances. Pretty cool stories.

This recipe reminds me of going to my grandma’s house as a kid. There was always a pot of this simmering away on her stovetop and a bowl of fresh tortillas with a dish towel over it. I would just grab a bowl and sit down to this wonderful comfort food.

I know ground beef is more traditional with picadillo, but my mother-in-law makes hers with flank steak, and it's FANTASTIC. Like a combination of Cuban ropa vieja and picadillo.

For the tortillas, throw in either bacon fat or beef tallow in place of the oil... Delicious!!! Great video as always!

Installing equipment at Moma’s kitchen in San Diego this week and found out about all the good work Sam does for this organization is amazing. Took a lunch break at Not Not Tacos and it was fantastic. Best tots ever.

Love me some picadillo. We use salsa de pato which is a spicy tomato sauce you can find at some stores and online.

I didn't realize picadillo was a Mexican dish. My Cuban family makes it a little different. We don't put onions and peppers. Instead of beef broth, we use red wine. We add green olives with the pimentos and serve with rice.

This looks so good, Sam. Reminds me of the first time i made this--back in 1984--a friend and i went to a local mexican rest (still operating today) and i ordered the picadillo. We liked it so much we went back to my house and decided to make it. Went to the store and bought what we believed was in it and at 10;00 p.m. we began, along with homemade tortillas. By the time everything was cooked it was 1;30 a.m. and we were eating picadillo with homemade tortillas. No, we hadn't been drinking, just two friends who liked to cook. Cooking with her has always been one of my favorite memories. AND IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! it looked a lot like yours. Thanks for the memories!!

I still remember when I was younger we didn’t have a TV when I was younger. I will go visit my mom’s friend. Sit out at her living room and watch your cooking shows now that I’m older and I do have a TV and I have YouTube.😅 love watching your videos

I make this all the time for my wife who hails from Mexico. So simple, super cheap, and so damn good! I brown the potatoes on the flat top. Gives it that little extra color and adds a nice flavor too.

Diced Mexican zucchini and carrot is a great addition! Picadillo is so universal. Great on its own with rice and beans, on tostadas, in crunchy tacos, flautas, enchiladas, burritos. The possibilities are endless.

Made a double batch of Picadillo con Papas for a party this weekend. Added some sofrito with the spices to the ground beef and added some pasilla/poblano paste when the tomatoes went in and used diced tomatoes with green chiles. The Picadillo before the potatoes remedied me of a place in San Diego that used to serve eggs over Picadillo and fried corn tortillas. This is probably now going to replace chili in the regular rotation… So good!

I grew up eating this with white rice and black beans in my Cuban/Puertorrican family. Still my favorite meal.
