I did the discord group posting and got a group of people with similar interests for a "one-shot so they can learn about D&D" 1.5 years later the oneshot still continues

What really irritates me is that all these people who are apparently just dying to play a game will not commit to a regular schedule when I offer to run. Also, most of them never think about the game at all outside the actual table time and just show up and expect to be entertained by the DM. Player commitment and engagement is the biggest issue in the community. They always talk the talk, but hardly ever walk the talk.

My method was overhearing some people talking about their game and sheepishly asking if I could join. My efforts were so successful I became the Forever DM for two years.

I think it should be stressed more that being a DM can be fun.
That's why I like Matthew Colville so much. He was the first person on Youtube I found who very plainly stated that being a DM is a fun experience.

I absolutely agree with the point about friends & family.

I have found that finding strangers to play games in person results in better games more often the not.

An starting games with friends & family will more often then not result in bad games to weak games.

A possibility for groups that have no DM is to rotate DMs. This means that each player takes a turn as DM, running an adventure or so and having their character sit out until the next player's turn as DM.

One you missed: Gaming clubs. See if there’s an RPG or wargaming club in your area. Also, I’ve noticed that some libraries are advertising D&D groups, so check them too.

I am from small village (250 people) in Eastern Europe and DnD is not the thing we have here. So when Covid struck, I was watching hundreds of CR videos and so on. So least summer I asked a 18yo kid on my street if he would like to try DnD. I got the books (Im the DM with no playing xp) and we just started. Since than he asked his friends to come along and now we have DnD groope. Every one is ferly enjojing it. We have game tomorrow. So as in Nike commercial say: Just do it!

Speaking on behalf of myself and I think most other "almost forever" GMs, we would be much happier if our groups of players would provide us with bacon from time to time.

I'm ready to join a game and I'll be invested, took me all day researching and studying dnd facts/details and finally made my character, I guarantee I'll be an asset :D

What a great channel I found by just looking around YouTube. You’re very informative and fun to listen to. It’s good to find that D&D is still being played. I have played and DM with the original rules and still learning the newer versions. Two thumbs 👍 up to The DM Lair.

I just wanna thank you for putting this video up. Being brand new to TTRPG’s. I’ve always wondered how I could go find a group.

I am new to D&D and I’m cool with being the DM. (I have never played so it’s all the same to me. 😂) I have found your videos very helpful.

I am retired military and I am used to knowing and able to look up rules extremely quick.

That being said I love your videos and on Friday it will be my first game. I looked up the model got tired and now just going to wing it. 😂

Your videos are very helpful
